Hi everyone, long time no see :-)

I’ve been absent for a bit - I think I crashed a bit after Covid, but I am alive and well and getting back on track.

It was a bit weird - I thought I was better, but I just couldn’t be bothered doing anything. Then I actually got better and realised I hadn’t actually been completely well after all! A bit like having a dream that you woke up, and then actually waking up.

I did get one good symptom - it killed my appetite for a while, and whilst it has come back it is currently still just at a fairly normal level instead of the weird constant peri-menopausal super hunger I’ve had for ages. I’m hoping it lasts as long as possible, it might actually be possible for me to lose some of my excessive weight - I’ve already lost enough that my clothes are fitting properly again.

I love when the government calls on a private number and asks me to confirm my name, DOB, address, etc. “Absolutely not, I have no way of confirming who you are”. They seem shaken by the response. Given their atrocious security protocol there’s no way I’m giving a private number any of that info.

We recently had to do this as part of a campaign. First thing I would say to the person on the other side ‘If you’re not comfortable confirming this, please email the address provided with the correspondence’.

I completed all my calls in about 15 minutes and fobbed the work onto the team that was monitoring the inbox.

Made it down the bellarine today. Had a subsurface leak last Monday (blehg) so all the watering was off. Good thing I did go as the chillies were looking a bit sad. But interestingly the patio flowers didn’t flinch.

    More Sad Stuff

turns out she had too many genetic faults, Nothing anyone could have done. She wasnt in pain. Thank Christ. I was terrified her previous owner had abused her or we’d failed her in some way. The rescue wont tell us what the vet bill costs so they are just getting a donation in her memory.

Okay so I’ve always had this problem with the hot water tap in the shower where if you turn it far right enough it turns on again and goes to full blast (not an analogy for conspiracy theorists, I promise). I have usually been able to turn it to just the right point to get it to stop running without starting again.

However as of the last 3 days or so the showerhead has been dripping incessantly and getting worse and worse. Right now it’s a constant trickle. Even if I turn off the tap as much as possible and turn the shower head upside down. I tried to turn it off completely at the mains and IT STILL WONT TURN OFF (and I can see it’s my meter for sure as when I have the tap running I can see the mini meter spinning). update: I was an idiot and turned the mains tap the wrong way, it took a lot of turning to go completely off but I managed to shut it down thankfully.

This is beyond an attempt to DIY fix the shower tap, right? Contact the REA asap instead? The main bother is the dripping at night as I can’t sleep (E: not without turning off hot water at the mains each time). Nobody’s charged me for hot water so far so that’s not the issue … It would be costing the owner a lot though I imagine

E: email sent. Making it sound as dire as possible. Basically either I have increasing dripping or no hot water. I hope they get someone in asap, but it’s the same REA who didn’t even respect the law and tried to arrange an inspection 2 months into a 6 month lease, so…

Definitely contact someone and don’t try to tackle it yourself (just in case). I’m no expert but there could be something wrong that could go sideways and result in difficulty turning off a strong flow

A tap shouldn’t full circle like that in the first place. It’s a safety hazard. You could probably DIY it, but what are you paying the bastards for?

If it was minor it would be the kind of thing I figured would keep me on their good enough side if I fixed it myself (lease ends in mid May with potential for extension and I really do need it for just 1-2 extra months).

But the fact that even turning off the hot water at the mains did nothing has me worried

Contact the REA for sure. It may classify as an urgent repair even, per the tenantsvic website:

      screenshot-

      Specifically:

      • A failure or breakdown of any essential service or appliance provided for water, hot water, cooking, heating or doing laundry
      • A failure or breakdown in any appliance or fitting supplied by the rental provider that will result in a large amount of water being wasted

This is great to know. I wasn’t sure it counted as urgent repair but I will definitely be making that clear to them now. The leaking is pretty bad now, I think all my tap turning has made it worse. I may have to put a towel in the bathtub to soak up the water so I can sleep at night.

Shit timing though, idk how long to wait before getting my own plumber and trying to get LL to reimburse

I believe on that website, the REA has to have it repaired ASAP! No waiting period, only waiting for as long as it takes for the LL/REA to get a plumber

If they don’t do it in a reasonably timely manner, then you can take them to VCAT, in which it will be heard within 2 business days and/or get a plumber yourself and have the REA reimburse you. But the tenantsvic website should lay it all out for you in regards to your rights and reimbursement

Got some crap news last night.

Very Sad don't read if your not up to it

The animal rescue reached out to us the other week to ask if we’d noticed anything wrong with Jill (the rescue kitten). Apparently she had some balance issues or trouble using a back leg. We were sort of steeling ourselves that she might come back to us (we told them if she had any trouble finding a home she was always welcome with us.) They were talking her to the vet to get checked over.

We hadn’t heard anything so followed up yesterday only to find she didnt make it. She passed shortly after we spoke to them the other week. They dont know exactly what was wrong, but she apparently had some issues. We are shattered. She wasnt even our cat but… fuck man. just… fuck.

Melbcat hid from me when I came back in the room after giving her meds :( She got over it quickly and is cuddling again but that’s the first time she’s ever acted scared of me. (I’ve never hurt her.)

She’s perked up a lot and seems to be feeling better on everything so I think it’s all working. It just sucks that the routine she’s currently on is full on and stressful (not helped by her refusing to eat medicated food like before).

I hope that when the antibiotics are done she starts eating her usuals in wet food again so she only has to drink one med once a day.

It might be a weirdly good thing she’s hiding from you; she’s getting better and so has the energy for doing so. If she was still so utterly sick, she might not have the energy to hide, I’d take it as a sign the med routine is working! Plus, it sounds like you’ve been forgiven very easily, she certainly, without a doubt, trusts and loves you!

You’re taking wonderful care of her! I’m so happy to hear she’s feeling more herself! 💜

Thanks. She’s definitely feeling better. She’s walking around, washing herself, curious about things and hungry for treats. Her fur looks good and her eyes more normal.

I think she knows I would never hurt her. She’s just overwhelmed by the current hardcore meds regime. Still sucks to see her anxious.
