This post is the place to put general site feedback and suggestions for changes/additions to FAQs etc. The post will be ongoing and linked from the sidebar to make it easy to find.

I am still in the process of putting together some general information and resources, so if you have something like a list of local resources on a particular area that might be useful to the community put it here and I can add it in.

Currently thinking about: how to make better use of the main page & other threads. Now that the bot is working ok I think putting some links in the daily post to other posts like the pet post and any ongoing topics would be good. I’m also contemplating something like a weekly what’s on post, for people wanting to chat about what their plans are or get suggestions.

This place is confusing enough for people and I feel like a more permanent banner that screams Melbourne would be preferable for now. An immediate visual acknowledgment that yes, you are in the right place. Rather than a rolling slideshow of picture of the month. Someone will have to tally up the vote each month for that as well.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the concept, but, not for the official banner.

Yeah, I’d say a tram screams Melbourne.

Edit: And I’ve just noticed we have a tram already in the avatar. Think I need my morning coffee.

      Maybe Flinders St?

The current banner photo was put up fairly quickly just so we have something there. I am wanting to change it, and would like to know if people prefer to have the same image there all the time, or if we should change it periodically.

If we change it regularly we could all have the opportunity to submit photos or artwork we would like displayed. If people prefer it not to change we could do the same with a one time vote for which image to use.

My personal preference is to change it regularly, but only if other people won’t find it disturbing to have the look of the page change.

Having a random showcase from the pets pic thread to use as banner would be my vote 😬

I was going to suggest that - rather than getting inundated with sunset pics like ye olde place - we could have a monthly photography thread. One with the most votes could go up the next month. But this may unfairly disadvantage pics from later in the month…

Sorry, just getting back to the banner issue. Might I propose engaging with or getting permission from any number of local artists to create a banner that represents Melbourne (or giving permission to use an existing image)

This promotes and nourishes local community within our digital space which, is part of the reason the DT works so well in the first place.

An example might be Callum Preston. A local artist whose designs could fit the bill https://callumpreston.com/

I’m not trying to promote this guy but just as an example of what my thought process is.

I’m happy to try and reach out to any artist that you all may think would help out.

I think it would be awesome to have a bespoke piece that’s locally made and I’m sure many artists would do it gratis.

      Thoughts?

The word “effect” in the community description is incorrect, it should be “affect”.

Ah, the old “affect/effect” problem. Not my strong suit, I’m afraid.

      The description now reads “affect”.
