just heard a long time raver friend passed away.

Her family went over to hers’ on father’s day to see why she wasn’t picking up. She had a fall in the bathroom and hit her head. Apparently she’d been there for 2 days. She was only in her 30’s. I really cannot imagine what that’d be like finding your daughter and sister that way.

I’m at a loss for words. edit and by that I mean shocked

      Dear The BoM,

I hope this message finds you well, although I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps you’ve recently indulged in some rather… creative forecasting methods, shall we say? Crack cocaine, maybe? No judgement, but your prediction that it will be 23°C overnight has left me scratching my head. It’s currently 17.5°C, raining, and we have winds fast enough to launch my rubbish bins into another suburb. A balmy 23°C just seems, well, ambitious.

Speaking of ambition, you promised us a delightful 27°C tomorrow, which I was frankly looking forward to. But now, out of nowhere, 23°C is all we get? What happened to our summer dreams? Was the 27°C forecast just a fleeting fantasy?

I trust you’ll look into this sudden shift, and kindly consider laying off whatever inspired such optimistic figures. I’ll be sure to hold on tight to my umbrella and hopes in the meantime.

      Sincerely,
      Baku

It was funny doing the drive up to eildon with a crazy worker in the little zipbox. Also did the great Ocean road in a Kia carnival which was funny, but it’s not as fun when it takes like 10 seconds to go past 40!

Note to self: Never drive from the Ring Rd to the Eastern Fwy via Bulleen Rd. Ever.

That was not a fun route, in the dark and riddled with roadworks. Plus my GPS seemed to think I was a truck over 10m long as it tried to send me on a very inappropriate detour.

Vaccinations aren’t on the PBS, getting hep a/b; and whooping cough+tetanus . $110ish.

EDIT: Are you male under 26 who plans to eat a few vaginas in your life? Consider getting the HPV-vax while you’re eligible: +1 Vs. some oral cancers.

You should get it every 10 years, for both it and the tetanus it is paired with. I’ve been sent for additional boosters after injuries with tetanus risk, so apparently the more the merrier.

I’m doing an open day trial at a co-working space today as I seriously need to get out of the house at least one day during the week, full time WFH gets super monotonous and negatively affects my mood. As sad as this sounds, I was excited today to get dressed up and leave my house on a work day. The office I’m at is new and super nice, if a bit loud. It’s nice to be around people during work time but nobody doing the trial (I think we’re all sitting in the same area) is talking to one another? I’m not sure it’s worth paying to use a co-working space where I just keep to myself, I can do that at home for free. I need to suss whether the place organises networking opportunities for members to mix, to make a membership worth it.

I also get this, I know most commentators online would rather WFH all the time and don’t get me wrong, I do love 1-2 days WFH in the week - but every single day would drive me to depression (and has done so). Not necessarily because I have no friends/life outside of work but because I like my work to feel like I’m not operating like a slave in solitary confinement all the time (worse yet having that dungeon of confinement be a permanent fixture of my home). I’m really glad I have at least 2-3 work days involving positive colleague interactions that take me out of my headspace

If you’re ever on Sydney Rd, Fluffy Tornado has opened and their range of gourmet ice creams they make onsite is superb. They have a vegan menu and a usual one, but they’re all weird interesting flavours (not so weird, but I go a lemon tart pastry ice cream and it has actual bits of lemon tart in it).

Gloria’s, The Good Baker, Choukette - off the top of my head, all on Sydney Road.

Gloria’s is a little vegan/veggo/usual cafe, and they bake all their delicious desserts, cakes, pies, etc on site. Owned by a couple they are both so very happy to adjust any menu pieces.

Choukette is a French bakery/cafe that has a range of hot and cold pastries and desserts. Beautiful decor and vibe, lovely baristas and owners.

The Good Baker has opened just recently but I have enjoyed everything I’ve had so far. Range of hot and cold pastries and desserts and bread, all made on site, and coffee of course.

              Edit to add:

A1 Bakery is further up Sydney Rd, but they are a Lebanese/Middle Eastern bakery, I think they generally do savoury pastry items and bakery goods. Large venue, so plenty of places to sit, but tends to very busy because they are so fkn good 🤤

Wild Life Bakery tends to be more bread and cheese, but they also do some nice baked goods as well. I think they are off Lygon St, but there is a Superette on Sydney Rd iirc.

If the kids go down well enough tonight I think I’ll go watch British Lion.

You have to respect Steve Harris’ organisational skills to bring his side project along with his main band and play the Croxton one night, then Rod Laver the next. He’s been playing stadiums for decades now, so there must be something humbling about playing such a comparatively smaller venue like the Croxton before the big show.
