We’ve had a break in at our office overnight! So far nothing appears stolen, but the office is crawling with cops blowing fingerprint dust everywhere.

Work break-ins are always a fun break-up of the usual routine. One happened at my old job and even though there’s all this expensive musical equipment, the guy just tried to make off with some laptops and cheap guitars.

It looked like the guy was homeless though. So he was more just trying to get whatever he thought would sell, which is quite sad overall

For those who care, Canada beat the USA in the 4 Nations hockey tournament, in overtime.

A great day for Canada, therefore the entire the Commonwealth and largely the world.

I sorta do and don’t. I didn’t know the event was on and this news doesn’t change my day in any way.

But if I were asked who I’d prefer to win in a(ny) sporting contest between Canada and USA, I’m picking Canada!

It was kind of like an all-star tournament with USA, Canada, Finland and Sweden sending their best. It’s been a long time since professional hockey players competed in the Olympics, so this was a bit of a trial run before the next winter games.

Sorry. Debian’s good because it has a longer update cycle, and you can opt out of them completely if you’d like. So you don’t get things suddenly breaking on you.

I feel like Linux also plays better with remote desktop services as any version of Linux can do it, you don’t need the pro or enterprise versions like with Windows.

And mounting network drives can feel more complicated when doing it in the command line, but I like the transparency of working in there than Windows’ wizard.

That’s been my experience at least, I’ve just been tinkering and don’t actually work in networking

I actually built a multi session MINT termserv for work to baby the users away from windows. Had a looooooot of linux people saying it was preposterous despite the fact this is what fucking linux was built for and trying to mock me, someone with 20 years experience who spends 90% of my time balls deep in production deb servers and proxmox (irony of ironies, I personally run slack)

That was an alright sort of day. Feel like I’ve been operating on autopilot… anyway it’s good to be home to a pre-cooled lounge room, time to heat up a hearty dinner and enjoy this week’s tv! My favourite thing about Fridays atm 🥳

What’s everyone’s plans for the weekend? I’ve got to list these dang little items on fbm before my rental inspection in two weeks, and probably do more bulk cooking. Nothing much else otherwise. Try and finish Juice, I guess

Shopping tomorrow early as possible at Southland for groceries and a click and collect.

Staying cool and catching up Severance if I don’t get to it tonight.

I think cricket match might be on tomorrow so I’ll try and catch that too.

Is it that you’re not sure what you’d like to cook for the next few days? Maybe get whatever’s on special and make up something out of it, that’s often fun.

I am very much over trying to move and photograph heavy things to sell. Especially because there is not much room to move them in. But I’ve been having a good run on Marketplace and hopefully these will all be cleared out and I can stop tripping over them. buying that antique post drill press seemed a much better idea when I didn’t realise how big and heavy it was! Getting it to the front door if I manage to sell it is going to be quite a workout.

I’m not sure if you already know about these or if they would be useful but there’s something you can slide under heavy things to help move them. Furniture lift tool thingy.

They are good. I’m pretty sure I used to have some, and am now wondering where they went. Unfortunately they wouldn’t help in this case though - it’s all stuff like old tools, including a really heavy old drill press that is designed to be mounted on a post - my guess it is around 40-50kg, with handles and things sticking out everywhere to make it even more awkward. The rest is at least only heavy because there are so many things - including a rediculous number of hand saws. I’m not even sure where they have all come from, but begin to suspect that someone has been sneaking into my shed to add extra struff! It’s amazing what 20 years of living in the same spot can see you accumulate.

Apparently using them like that can also help to remove a splinter. It didn’t work for me, but that’s probably because the “splinter” turned out to be a small stick requiring surgical intervention. But the whole osmotic pressure thing is supposed to work on normal splinters.

It creates some osmotic pressure to pull edema. It’s a bit of an old timey solution. Whenever I recommend it to clients I was sure to inform them that the science was weak. It’s cheap, low risk and easy to self manage. I was always bad at the business part of being a therapist.
