Update on the tense family stuff.

Background: Bro and SIL tried to upend (bulldoze is putting it better) sleeping arrangements, got upset that it didn’t go their way and left in a huff.

Result: Apparently that is now a major falling out. Surprised how upset they are.

    oh well.

You did exactly the right thing, telling them to cut out the bullshit powerplays. I’ll bet they thought you were a pushover, after all the wedding crap that you complied with. Now they know different and will just have to cope with the fact they did a wrong thing. Of course they are upset. The more wrong they are, the more upset they are. Classic narcissist behaviour.

What children. Maybe this outburst is better than indefinitely simmering tension though.

Sounds like a cold water swim is what you need to shake off the tension and bad vibes

Good stuff resisting and standing up to them.

They may be upset but do they recognise that what they did was unacceptable for you?

Or are too selfish and only thinking about themselves while being upset?

Out of curiosity did they leave to go home or to find another place to stay?

I thought Bridezilla behaviour was supposed to end after the wedding…

They’re being childish. Tried to throw their weight around through some artificially inflated sense of importance and had a tantrum when it didn’t work. Especially crappy behaviour if you were allowing them to stay with you, and after all the extra miles you went at short notice for the wedding. From your posts you do a lot for your family (it seems expected of you) and I don’t think this pair appreciates it.

I was surprised how badly it floored me when I got it for the first time a few months ago and I’ve had every shot as soon as it became available to me and it still did a number of me.

As a triple vaxxed c19 veteran (I’ve had it many times due to lifestyle choices) after this many days, if you’re feeling “alright”, you should be good to get outta that room and not be contagious. You’ll likely continue test positive for a few weeks.

I’m so sorry about your holiday though.

But please go have fun if you’re feeling well, and I do hope you’re feeling well!

This latest strain is harsh though and unless you’ve had the bivalent vaxx, it knocks you for six.

Got an email just now from the landlord that they want to inspect the place this Saturday at 1pm, was really annoyed and bummed out that I’d need to turbo clean the place, then thought that didn’t seem right and found out that it’s a minimum 7 day notice. They are managing this solo after firing the REA (then bumping up the rent by 15% anyway), so I have to really be extra aware of my rights

e: started watching Silo for something to distract me from cramps. It’s beautiful, but is the tv script written by a 14yo. It’s so on the nose. Easy to watch though.

Nylon UV stabilized rope. Climbing rope is expensive, but easy on little hands. Any rope rated for towing will do - you might want to put a hessian sleeve on the grip part for the rougher but cheaper ones. Use an eye bolt through the whole branch vertically, a wooden washer/rain shield on the top and attach both ropes to the eye of the bolt. This is the easiest way to level up the seat, and the kindest on the tree. A thinnish plank spreader to keep the ropes apart is good. The enemy of tree swings is water - you might like to undo the swing in winter and bring it inside the shed. Leave the eye bolt in place permanently to reduce the chance of fungal infections getting into the tree.

Not recommended to tie rope directly around the branch. Can throttle the tree’s circulation and cause the branch to drop off unexpectedlike.

Source : went through all this with my boys when they were young. Might be smart to check with council etc. to see if the method of hanging is still the recommended one.

I am still traumatised by the nasty childhood incident where my hair was caught in the rope of a tyre swing in our backyard, leaving me trapped clinging to the tyre unable to move my head while I screamed for help for what felt like hours. So I would answer that you should not use a knot of any type because it would be better to keep the tyre and swing unattached.

I’ve previously read that potentially a small % of the population may be genetically nocturnal as a natural selection advantage because those people used to be the ones guarding caves from say lions at night, and protecting people inside castles whilst everyone else slept. So it was beneficial as a species to have that small %.

Therefore it might not be something you or I can change.

It only took me over a year (and massive late fines) to finally get the concentration and motivation to actually finish reading this hilariously overdue book, but I’m proud to say I finally did it (and returned it).

Sure, it’s a kind of cognitive bias, but right now I feel happy to indulge in the interpretation that I was meant to read that book now, today, at this point of my life. The book was The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.

I know it gets quite a bit of flak for being a bit trite and predictable, but I resonate with the main character alarmingly strongly and definitely feel like I’m more in that stuck stage of life at the moment, so I think I was inclined to like it anyway. The timing, though, with the progression of events and experiences over the last year and in particular the last week or two, made the book ring true and feel powerful to me rather than saccharine. Old self-helpy truths sounded new and vital again.

Any other time I might’ve rolled my eyes and maybe even hate-read it, actively countering every offering the book could provide, seeking out negative reviews to reinforce what I focused on, and would’ve been stuck in a resistant, cynical place for longer than is healthy, deluded in some idea that I was resisting manipulation and therefore worthy.

So I am glad I read it now and feel a little changed for the better, at least for today.

Is he just a nutty gardener or might there be another purpose? My FIL used to go out the front and hose down the driveway and hand water the front lawn for an hour or more. I observed that he did it at certain times of the day; in order to observe the comings and goings in the street, and entrap passing neighbours into conversation (and with him being an elderly ex cop, they found it hard to extricate themselves from it).

Feeling a combination of cranky and guilty for similarish reasons too but being forced to get out of the house this morning has helped a bit. I was scrolling through dumb shit til 2am this morning and had to wake up at 7:30, I’m way too tired to garden but accepting that and getting through an extremely overdue library book in a chill cafe in a suburb I’ve never really spent much time in has been good instead. Better to feel things outside of the house than be in it all the time…
