I’ll be offline this week, on a cruise to Tasmania.
Have a great trip!
And try and avoid covid…
It’s like a 9 hour boat trip, how lost are you planning on getting to stretch it out to a week?
It took 30 hours to get from Port Melbourne to Hobart alone, the ship didn’t go too fast.
Have a good trip. If the Tasmanian Fudge Company is still running bring me back some fudge. 🙂
Sky pretty
Top night for it! Enjoy your tennis 🎾
Nice pic!
Not my f’ing day.
Just spilt my entire dinner on the god damn carpet and had to do a massive cleanup and remaking dinner again as all of it had to be tossed out.
It’s the last thing I need right now!
Poor bugger, I feel for you, that really sucks. At least you made another… I’ve been known to crack the shits and go without in a huff like an idiot
Trust me I cracked the shits.
It was souped based as well which made it so much worse to clean up.
Almost thought about going without as well.
Anyway time to take a deep breath.
Still annoyed at myself.
gees
Stand-up meetings, where everyone is in fact sitting down and it goes for almost an hour, a very crappy way to start the week.
Also this annoying brown-noser type person at my work took it upon themselves to run the meeting and they called me out on screen and asked me how my weekend was. I said it was fine and asked how theirs was, their response to my lack of information was “wow it’s like talking to a teenager”. Fuck off. If I don’t want to regail all of the staff about what I did on the weekend like you do, then that’s my decision to make.
“wow it’s like talking to a teenager”
completely unacceptable. Go to HR and your manager on it. Claim to be offended (Because they wont give a shit otherwise). You’re owed an apology and they need to learn they cant do it any more.
Oh I hate this cunt for you.
I would have responded with " hmm that comment resembles something a teenager might say".
passive agressive denigrating remarks in the workplace? mmm well that’s not conductive for a good working environment, I’d suggest having a chat with HR.
Wow. Just wow.
I answer much like you to questions about how I am and stuff like that at work and I do get ribbed a bit that I’m never anything but fine but it’s all lighthearted and that they’d love to hear that I’m feeling wonderful one day but seriously that response is so unnecessary and ugly.
Me thinks you need to raise this with someone perhaps.
I hate this person for you. It’s none of their business and it’s actually a good idea not to discuss your personal life at work
Bummer
I’ve been struggling for hours to get my abdominal pain down to manageable levels and am currently back on a liquid diet. The severe pain is happening so frequently now and all the specialists so far have just shrugged or been jerks. Trying to get in with a pain management clinic via a private route now because this is debilitating.
I’m sorry, there are still areas where modern medicine just goes 🤷♀️
Yup. ‘Guess it’s all in your head, GL.’
Except they don’t say good luck.
Yeah, it’s more like, ‘welp, I’m all out of ideas so…you’re on your own’.
I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope they can help.
Thanks. Fingers crossed there’s something
I am eating chicken nuggets!!! I can not taste them and they are probably a terrible choice for my first solid food, but chicken nuggets!!!
I made a post on Facebook mentioning I had some time off and now Facebook is suggesting I start a chat group to plan a meetup. All of these “smart” AI/algorithms are really starting to be annoying - it’s like having an idiot friend around who constantly misses the point of things. Instead of adding value like it’s supposed to, most of the time it just takes up time and distracts you pointlessly.
Nothing worse than when technology tries to be “Helpful”
If the technology was smart enough to understand context it might actually manage to be helpful. But when your post is actually about looking forward to spending time at home and not going out, plus it is in a group with 82K members from all over the world and not a great venue to plan an impromptu meetup, then that sort of suggeston coming up is just an annoyance.
What? Who isn’t interested in making a chat group for a Meetup to best use their break?!
I keep getting recommended sci-fi stuff on streaming services. Um you don’t know me at all algorithm.
It would not be so annoying if they didn’t go so overboard on everything. But it’s never just one or two ads, it takes over so that’s pretty much all you see.
If reminds my of a situation my mother had with someone she worked with once. Mum said once that she liked the ginger biscuits they had for morning tea, and this person focused on that to the point of obsession - she would buy and present ginger biscuits regularly, christmas presents would be chocolate coated ginger etc. All presented with the best of intentions because “I know how you like ginger”. Which might have been great if Mum did actually love ginger, but it was a faulty extrapolation from a single passing statement, and instead it was extremely annoying (to the extent she would regularly come home and vent about it, which is why I know about it!).
The way they are using their algorithms now is like that, going way overboard from snippets of information and most of the time being annoying rather than helpful.
Haha. I know that feeling. I got 4 boxes of Maltesers for Christmas this year because I said I liked Malteser bunnies 5 years ago.
Also chocolate Roses. I like them occasionally. I don’t need a years supply. I had to start making cakes and biscuits so I could give away tins. Friends mean well. They know I like tins and Roses.
I guess faulty algorithms are not just a technology thing. Maybe the problem is that the technology is actually becoming too human!
I’ve made a new post named Tucker Time on [email protected] replacing What’s for dinner? That way you can post about your breakfast, lunch, dinner etc.
It would be great if you could contribute unless of course if you live on air. Thank you.
The press fawning over “our” Queen Mary is really cringe and gross. She got married so what. She didn’t invent the cure for cancer. Australia isn’t special, deal with it.
There are worse things in the world we can be angry about.
I wouldn’t say I was angry, more repulsed.
That aside what’s your point? That I shouldn’t have posted the comment? Hmm no I don’t think so I’m entitled to critique the medias silly fawning.
It’s a little fairy tale not as bad as the humidity.
All that glitters ain’t gold.
calm down space cowboy
I hope the press doesn’t harass her to death. The Ghouls.
She bailed on Australia to go live in another country. That’s how much she loves Australia
The “our Mary” thing is pretty cringey but women my MILs age are pretty into it
It’s been a long-ass day, so many calls,
So many people staring at their walls,
Calling us to do some dirty, hard work.I’m trying so hard to talk to them all,
Tell them we’ll pick them up when they fall,
I start at 10am, it’s the only real perk.I tell myself I’m not burning out,
It’s just a busy period,
It’s what this job is all about,
I tell myself I’m not burning out,
It’s just a busy period,
I’m just a bit worn out.so many hugs
and have a beer or two on us 🍺🍺🍻🍻
PSA: I’ve lost some photos. Partly my fault, partly computers dying. Anyway right now I had 3 or 4 repositories or backups, most duplicated, but I only discovered recently that at some point something corrupted and I lost some priceless photos. Spent 3 weeks digging through old storage to find a backup and luckily, I found a VERY old SD card that contains them. Its a miracle that it survived this long. I nearly cried tears of joy. Anyway, if you don’t have a good backup solution? Go make one. Right bloody now!
I’m also open to suggestions for management/organization of photos. Right now im across iCloud for recent stuff, Dropbox for last gen stuff, and then google drive for older than that stuff. And its just chaos!
Print them out and put them in an album. Use the best paper, ink, glue and album you can find. The pictures should last quite a few decades, if not more.
This is a great idea.
Every year my wife and I pick out our fave photos of the year across both of our phones (because that’s where they all get taken these days!), and when Snapfish do their big yearly sale at the start of Jan we get a hardcover photo book made up.
It helps to have a folder that we just dump photos we particularly like into as the year goes on, makes things quick come book compiling time.
Just this weekend gone our niece was staying with us, and she loved going through our little collection of photo books on the shelf, and I admit I enjoyed it too! I love the experience of browsing a book or album of printed photos.
A long time ago people used to get “slides” made out of their photos and would have slide shows at home. Slides are quite durable and in a pinch you could even have a lantern show.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reversal_film
https://www.magiclanternsociety.org/about-magic-lanterns/lantern-slides/
Oh don’t I know it - back before digital photography became ‘a thing’ I used to love taking photos using slide film, and still have my little slide projector in the shed somewhere (along with a couple of cameras to take said photos).
That said, man my slide nights were boring AF =)
That’s a lovely idea!
We’ve just done that in the form of a calendar for the grandparents, but we’re talking a need for more long term cold storage.
There’s a whole lot of earth moving going on out the back of mine and the reverse noise on one of the bits of equipment sounds like a huge wattle bird and the resident magpies are freaking the fuck out. Just standing there on the lawn staring at this excavator probably regretting the little feud they have going on (with the real wattle birds).
I hate the new style reverse noise. Apparently it’s now the thing to use because it is more noticeable and annoying than the beeps.
this is making me laugh way harder than anything has the right to. Maybe they should try praying to the Magpie God.
So sore and tired , no cooking, I’m having gyoza for dinner 🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🥟🌶️
Yum yum!
I found a really good minimalist keyboard https://github.com/dkter/aaaaa
How on earth did that get approved for the App Store?
Anything can really as long as it’s not a virus.
it’s a toss-up in my household as to who sucks more: Colesworth or Australia Post.
At least colesworth deliver, I guess…
Colesworth for me
Never had major issues with Aus Post. Hate the duopoly bastardry.
That’s a tough one. Aus post I haven’t have any issues but my local post office sucks. On the other hand Coles worth suck but the staff of my local stupor markets are lovely.
