I put a cheap Kings Gazebo on the north side of the house yesterday morning.

We didn’t need to put on the AC at all!

Despite the builders best efforts, our Zero Energy designed house is doing pretty well.

We have an 80th Birthday Party here this arvo with 50ish guests. I think that we may need to turn the ACs on.

Mine is fundamentally IKEa, but I covered that sucker in all kinds of silk & velvet so would really rather they didn’t. Some success with a spray ‘herbal’ deterant

I did a great job of making sure the bin was full and ready for collection, then fogot to actually take it to the curb. Now I have a bin full of such delights as chicken bones, cat litter and dog poo bags ready to marinade in the scorching heat of the weekend. 😭

On a positive note I have layer 1 of my lime and strawberry jelly jars poured and setting in the fridge.

When the man goes out to scoop the dog shit up for fun he’ll take the kitchen rubbish out with him first to put them in. Sometimes he forgets so he’ll put the scooper in the red bin. Unsuspecting me comes out, flings open the lid and cops a whiff. Kill a black dog on a rusty chain that.

The grass has turned yellow from the heat. The peaches on my mini-peach tree are ripening, as are the tomatoes. The fig harvest is coming in the next couple of weeks, the nectarines are swelling and have turned a beautiful dark ruby colour. And I’ve just bought a replacement 1 litre bottle of spf-infinity skin lotion …

such a beautiful day today and yesterday, not a single cloud in the sky, and the night is clear with twinkling stars

and huge bats flying over head , I can hear their big wings flapping when they come close.

Cheap telescope was predictably disappointing. My dad’s old binoculars did a much better job, we could clearly see the dark side of the moon and the edges of craters! This old nerd was very excited 😊

I have some pics from Castlemaine. Not touristy pics, just stuff I found interesting. 🙂

a gun captured from the Germans in wwi. There are so many war trophies and memorials from wwi it makes me think the war greatly effected this far from Europe town .

    spoiler

cute aussie planter at the entrance to the art gallery

    spoiler

    awesome painting by Drysdale

    spoiler

my fave entrant in the Fox art competition. By Joel Arthur. Trees on a lake? I just love the colours and perspective.

    spoiler

A weird church. This town was full of distinctive architecture

    spoiler

old wwi ambulance parked on the main street

    spoiler

in case anyone needs to send a telegraph

    spoiler

a very weird flower in the botanical gardens . agave gigantea

    spoiler

If you compare the surnames on the war memorial of nearly every country town with the surnames on the land ownership records of the time, the lists are nearly identical. Yes, country towns contributed far more than their share of young men to WW1. There’s a reason so many have an Avenue of Honor of oak trees or similar. Even though a lot of these are damaged by time they still survive.

My grandfather was on the commission that set up the war memorials for Vic & NSW country towns and the papers in his estate are grim reading. So many young men that never came back. Including his 4 older brothers. He was the only boy in his family of 9 sibs that came back. My grandmother - of her 5 brothers only 2 came back, one so badly disabled that he could not work. Which in those days was saying something.

Have made it to Tokyo!! A visit to Donki and I’ve made my first Mofusand purchase of the trip and set up an in room snack bar because we are wrecked. Overnight flight with lie flat seats, but less than 3 hours sleep.

If I buy energy jelly, does that count as me joining this cool crowd?

Must be the time of year.

I messaged the landlord and let him know. I don’t have a lease and am paying month to month so at least i won’t have to pay anything to leave.
