Went out for a b-day (mine!!) dinner to Kumo Izakaya today

    Holy. Fucking. Shit.

Been a hot minute since I’ve enjoyed a meal so much.

Everything we had, slapped. Slapped hard.

Only gripe, tempura didn’t have a mayo dip.

    First world complaints right there.

Thank you and yes you should

It’s great and reasonably priced for what it is .

Not cheap, but not stupid either.

Call Me By Your Name :

Released in 2017 starring Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer

Basically It’s a coming of age love story between the two. They are intellectual, artistic, and confident for their age and you can sense the sexual tension fairly early on between the two but, at first, I felt let down by the pacing and aimlessness of the story. It meanders like a long, wine soaked lunch in a country town.

Eventually, I became comfortable with the pace of life portrayed in northern Italy and ultimately fascinated by the bond these two characters developed.

Chalamet gives an astonishing portrayal of a young man both confused and totally confident with his sexuality. I had no idea because I’ve only seen his work in the Dune series and that doesn’t really showcase his range.

A pleasant surprise at the movies tonight

    5/5 apricots 😉

William Tell. Pretty generic peasant vs nobility medieval story. Felt a lot like Braveheart, Rob Roy, Robin Hood, etc. Not bad but forgettable. 2/5.

I watched Exodus with Paul Newman and Eve Marie Saint a few times recently. I’m still not sure what to make of it. It shows good human stories and explains the events surrounding the creation of Israel accurately. It treats everyone with respect and understanding. I suppose in that regard it did what it was meant to do.

      4 hobbits

Tonight I watched “Relax I’m From the Future” with Rhy Darby. A light weight sci fi time travel farce. It was ok.

      2 hobbits

I have not heard of that one. Looking at the wiki, the musical score received the most accolades.

4 hobbit is a pretty good I might put it on the list.

The signature tune of Exodus is magnificent. I think nowadays that it celebrates a form of colonialism that grates a bit on today’s sensibilities. Still an incredible anthem of those times. One of the great earworms.

Friend spontaneously suggested shopping trip, and I found some clothes I actually liked! That was a rarity, but it’s nice to know that I have a couple of outfits for the professional setting now :) Excitement!

When I lived in Fitzroy I’d invite myself to parties like that. I found the trick was to find tenant, explain that I lived near by and ask if it was cool to hang around. Bringing my own booze, sparking a fat joint to share and being the bouncer at the local club that ran to 5am helped too. From about '03 to '13 I knew so many people in hospo, there was almost always people I knew already kicking it.

Just watched Mickey 17. It’s no Parasite but it’s very entertaining and Robert Pattinson somehow manages to transcend into a new and admirable realm of memedom.

Now to go wolf down some dinner

Broke out the hose to do a bit of watering for the aunt. Super nice little overgrown but not thing going on:

    Complete privacy.

Doing well for a late 70 yr old.

A lot of the gardens here follow a similar format (lots of box hedges, bluestone paths and shit), but hers also has an element of chaos.

Hambam wasn’t a fan of the hose.

Pizza for dinner after the talk recently of it. The local place has been dropping in quality for a while, they’re still not as good as they were. Maybe suffering the costs of living on ingredients themselves, but for the price and calories, I think I’m done with the place.

Lol my partner’s ADHD makes him forget the specific date and year, but he knows I’m in April because he is too 😂 he tries, and I know he feels terrible. I don’t fault him for it though, he’s forgotten his parents and siblings birthdays as well which cuts him up something harsh.

I imagine it will resolve after his assessments and treatment, but even if it doesn’t, it doesn’t bother me personally.

If my DAD forgot my birthday, though (barring medical reasons), I’d be VERY upset!

I’m sure he has some sort of attention condition despite his assertions otherwise. One year just took the (lack of) cake: he started a new job that day, brought home Superannuation paperwork and asked me my birthdate to fill it out. I told him. About 10 minutes later the cogs turned over and an epic Oh SHIT was heard 😹

I forced myself out even though I had already lost a couple hours and all up the driving probably took longer than the fieldwork. It’s okay. Every bit counts. I finished up the furthest section at least so no need to go all the way there again. Next round: finish the last undone area, then redo like 30 records with bad data. And then on some cloudy day I’ll have to go back to remeasure about 70 records in mm, not cm… and that’s that council area done. Got a whole stack more to do north side. Might be pushing it to finish it by the end of this month but I’ll do my best.

I felt that a lot doing the school drop-off and pickup. So many are Lycra clad 20s-30s talking about their day spa appointments and bathroom renovations. I used to make odd small talk with the grandparents there, or just keep to myself. Felt very much not a part of it.
