It was demanded of me to change sleeping arrangements by bro and SIL because their bedroom is ‘too small’. At 10pm ffs
Their argument was that because they’re newly married, they should get the biggest room.
They visit here on bellarine once a year. Stay in their ‘too small’ bedroom all day gaming and do nothing to help out. Constantly on their phone at dinner and they treat the place like it’s their own.
It turns out SIL demanded the bigger room and I’m disrespectful to her for not giving in which is the biggest heap of shit I’ve heard all week.
So I cracked the shits. I don’t do that often but I did.
I’ll need to pick up the pieces because we’re all going out for dins tonight heh.

Too small for what? If all they are doing is gaming and sex, they really only need the area of the bed and somewhere to stash clothes overnight. This is a status/power play from them. You are absolutely correct to tell them to take a long walk off a short pier. It is your house after all. If their personal pride calls them to do the full Karen, they should go to a hotel and pay the staff to pander to their egos. The price of which is usually high. If they want to avoid first class hotel charges, it’s up to them to adapt to the accommodation available.
Champagne tastes on a beer budget are rightly the source of much comedy, and deserved ridicule.I’m still trying to work out what it is but I think it is a power play.

In a vacuum if they’re staying with you they are in no position to demand anything from you.
Else they can go to a hotel or something. Family can be complicated at times and navigating it can be a trying experience but what I said still stands.
They should be grateful they have a place to stay for free.

Ignore the demand. At dinner ask them what tasks about the house and property they will doing. Give a list of what needs to be done. Tell them it’s a condition of staying. It’s best to talk about expectations rather than have them unsaid.
Of course they may be agreeable and will then forget to do anything. There may also be drama. Then I suggest forget to invite them in the future.

“First class” on the Melbourne <> Sydney XPT fucking sucks. I paid extra expecting comfort, a table and power points just like the photos online but what it is in reality is similar to economy airline seats which recline a fairly long way, which the bogan in front of me has used to its fullest the entire way. No table (besides flip down trays on the seatback which I can’t use with bogan reclined. No power.
Seriously considering hiring a car and driving home after the cruise.
Yeah, long distance trains here are unfortunately not great. The main plus is leg room but unfortunately there’s moderate chance you’re stuck behind a bogan so you don’t get anything. The lack of power outlets is shocking. Last I was on the XPT was in 2010 and only up to Canberra, I honestly preferred driving.
The trains are OK for distances like Syd<>Canberra.
I’d for sure drive the Canberra trip. I’d drive the Sydney one too if parking my car for 11 days wasn’t a huge expensive issue!
I guess there’s a reason why most people fly, though it does get pricey at short notice…
Sydney to Melbourne drive is honestly extremely boring. Not unless you took the coastal route.

After months of cat deprivation I am getting a double bonus today. Came across town to check in on my friend’s moggy for a few hours (first time I’ve done it on PT in years… wish I could come more often but theres no easy way).
She reckons because I came in from the Outside I should naturally be able to take her out there. No supervised outside time until I’ve sat down and had my rare “treat” of generic sushi rolls, Missy.
F me though, they’ve unsurprisingly shot up in price. Haven’t had them in over a year… They’re all $3+ each now.

Warm! I just walked lugging my stuff to Darling Harbour to find that it’s a big hole now! The entire shopping centre that was there is GONE which means Hurricanes Bar and Grill is gone and no ribs for lunch for me :(

Ok I think this instant pot is a game changer. Made hommous from scratch and it is 👌
It’s not necessary quicker but the ability to not have to nurse the chickpeas on the stove for an hour is really great for my slightly executive-focus-deprived brain. Also if you add a pinch of bicarb to the water it will dissolve the skins and make the chickpeas super creamy without soaking first.
Fresh homemade hummus is like nothing else in this world. Well done.
