Housemate and I are on the house hunt and we found this lovely house in a place we love, and in very fine print it says you aren’t allowed to use the carport/granny flat or the shed…

Why the fuck would I pay to use half the house/property, you’ve got to be fucking joking. What’s more is I don’t want to run into someone in the backyard every other day while I’m paying probably triple their rent. I don’t know maybe I’m being unreasonable, but it just seems ridiculous that you pay all this money to basically have a room mate you don’t even get to pick.

Ugh I hate that. A house I rented in Epping for 5 years had the stipulation that tenants couldn’t use the shed either, so I had to store the yard stuff in the dilapidated sunroom, which I got complaints about because the lawn mower made it smell a bit like petrol. Couldn’t use the sunroom because of the massive holes in the roof, but it smelled like petrol so fuck me right?

Ugh, I feel your pain, it sucks ass to rent from slumlords.

The system really is fucked. God forbid you want to actually use the house you’re paying out the arse for.

nice little ride on the foreshore beach path at pt. lonsdale to the shops.

I usually avoid it this time of year as you have kids running randomly and people walking aimlessly in the middle of the path. But thanks to a young fam riding ahead of me they paved the way doing all the dinging work. They were relentless. Just bulldozed that path no one stood a chance.

    Edit:

And a little vid of the resident maggie:

She only sings occasionally for me so I have to try and sweet-talk her into it.

Went to the tennis tonight. $$ ticket for seeing a couple one sided matches. Just the luck of the draw sometimes but still. Food and drinks were massively overpriced, super crowded and pretty messy in areas. Hate it when you spend a lot of money for a second rate experience.

Jasper coffee is nice but at 6 dollars for a medium cap one could be forgiven I was at the airport!

It’s all getting a bit much now. Definitely would not get coffee from here regularly.

Cries in soy milk surcharge and preference for a mocha.

Can’t have coffee regularly these days any more anyway, but ordering it is definitely a rare treat, not even a weekly indulgence

My mother of very little musical and pop culture knowledge (terminated after The Beatles and My Fair Lady) would ALWAYS have this on her tongue when trying to raise some kind of enthusiasm (sometimes in herself) around food and cooking.

It’s from the musical Oliver! of about the same vintage as My Fair Lady. Very hummable choons. This one is done by the poor workhouse children dreaming of the food they didn’t get.

Well there you go. My mum was very much into instilling shame in her children for all the starvation and poverty happening in the world (incl. starving Ethiopians). I think it was one of her coping mechanisms from going through periods of food shortage and rationing in her teens and early adulthood.

Not the eternal guilt trip inflicted by all parents in the world on selective eaters - “Think of the Starving Children in Africa!” ??? I think we all copped that. Good for compassion and charitable urges no doubt, but I did wonder how the starving children would benefit by me eating up ALL the celery on my plate (and I hate celery). Surely it would make more sense to send the celery to them if at all possible. Still, the food/family nexus is rarely if ever logical.

Looking forward to that when it comes out. Have you read Terry Pratchett’s book Dodger - a real gem imo. Entirely faithful to the spirit of the original, but details different.

Yes indeedy. Especially the bits about 5,000 years of food safety regulations … which is a nice contrast to Dickens’ rampant anti-semitism. Different story, same setting, and a lot more slapstick. Classic late phase Pratchett.

Went to Highpoint with the Minis for a free Bluey show. The kids were keen to go but I think it was one of those times when they realised they’re getting older. Managed to get school shoes for the Elder and the kids scored a free ball each. Ate at Schnitz and San Churro (kids choice). Am well tired.

I’ve been playing Spider-Man 2 a lot this weekend and it is absolutely amazing (pun intended). Spider-Man 1 and the Miles Morales game were awesome but this has taken them to an entirely new level. I haven’t read any spoilers on the main story so it keeps continuing to surprise and thrill me.

I love the Batman Arkham games and I’ve been desperately wanting more. This game has possibly surpassed them. Absolutely loving it.

I’m taking a break to pretend to be a human being for a little bit. Just wow.

For me the story felt a tad…. Not flat just… I think it tired to do too much, and miles didn’t get enough screen time as a result. That’s a personal taste thing though.
