I just walked out to the bin and almost died.

My mulch delivery is on it’s way, just carting a few of those bales to the back yard it likely to kill me.

Upon reflection, chit-chat is maybe not my preferred option. Especially when ‘chat’ is a euphemism for a flea. As in riding ‘flat chat’, which means galloping fast while holding your body so close to your horse’s neck that the fleas get squashed between. And chat potatoes, which refers to spuds so small as to resemble fleas. Chit-chat means small talk. Very small talk. Not my preference. The DT does more than that.

    Maybe ‘Daily Ramblings’???

Or just leave it as Daily Discussion Thread - which is accurate and not demeaning. And we’re all accustomed to it.

I don’t mind it. It describes what it is, and it’s been that for many many years - everybody already knows what it is, what it’s called, and what time or happens. I was also considering if there might be people who are subscribed to the sub but want nothing to do with the DT. Since it’s posted by just random people, they might block the phrase “daily discussion thread” since that unanimously used across them all

Was up very late/early this morn. About 5am a brand new white van screamed down the street, stopped in front of the neighbours place (they have 2 very nice cars), dude jumps out with a torch takes a quick squizz at their front gate / door, jumps back in van and hoons away.

Their place (or cars) is totally getting cased. Absolutely targeted.

That’s why I’d never buy really expensive cars.

This is the neighbour who has buggered my shed wall and currently in dispute.

Should probably tell 'em they’re potentially about to get done and do the neighbourly thing. Might make them reconsider their position on the wall heh. Thinking about it.

    Hrmm…

I regret to inform you that I died of hot while gardening today.

I am attempting a resurrection ritual involving cold grapes and air conditioning.

Edit: the grapes revived me enough to make pita bread pizza which completed the job. I believe I am now officially alive again.

Back when I was a wee adult (19-20yo) I worked at a pop-up stall at Knox City. It was a stall that sold glass Christmas baubles, and my job was to ring up customers, but also write their requested names on the baubles with glue and glitter.

The week before Xmas, I’d get to Knox City when it opened, and stay until just before they closed, I think it was like 14 hour days or something. There was always two of us, one ringing up and the other painting. I was always the painter lol

I barely slept, had approx 3x 500ml Vs and lunch was Hungry Jacks from the food court.

I never want to work retail xmas again and while it was over 10 years ago for me, I have always felt such empathy for retail workers since. It’s fucking brutal and the general public are MEAN

    Peaceful night at home tonight.

Had a really, really good music session last night I’m hoping to repeat. The type where you don’t record anything because you’re playing just for yourself.

Will practice a few of the new songs so I can play another show before Xmas.

Got a band audition tomorrow which is exciting. A friend from tassie is in town so we’ll catch up tomorrow.

Social calendar is starting to get busy which is nice :)

Oh and I bought this because fuck it why not

I opened up a fixed term deposit account today. My options were fairly limited because of my age and the balance I had on hand, but I looked around, and am pretty sure I found the best interest rate I could, at least for now. At this scale, any extra interest I could get elsewhere if I were over 18 works out to be like 2 bucks anyways lol. Mostly in it for a safe place to keep my money away from my stupid reckless impulsivity anyways 😂

      This is so good!

The way I save is by having an auto deposit into a separate ‘high interest’ account every time I get paid, as modest amounts stack up and not seeing that money means it isn’t missed.

I have a bit of a cheeky saving strategy - I pay 25% into tax, but don’t actually have enough money to need to pay tax. It’s kinda like an interest free, automatic, recurring, term deposit

I was actually meant to open a fixed term at tax return time, but that’s when all the bads were happening, so I was kinda stressed (and a bit depressed), and through a series of very poor financial decisions, wasted the majority of it. It’s all worked out in the end, though. I timed it so the TD will end around tax return time, so I can lump that in with it and reinvest

Thanks! My biggest trouble is being uncomfortable having money. Always grew up worrying about it, and then being worried it’d get stolen, so now if I have money I go into how fast can I spend this mode. That’s why I’m so fond of these fixed terms and things like voluntary tax deductions

Should probably figure out how to fix that. Oh well. I’m sure I’ll work it out one day

I grew up with similar. It wasn’t until I’d saved my first $1000 that the rest sort of came easily. But I also needed to be in a position in life where I was earning enough and being frugal for that to happen.

Oh, I’m the same. My financial brain is in two halves - half of me KNOWS I have a safety net now, but the other half is driving and that half is used to being poor as shit.

My safety net is real, but doesn’t feel real

You probably chose the “do not claim the tax free threshold” option on the intitial paperwork. I did that when I first started working - I didn’t know what it was, so figured I shouldn’t claim it. It did lead to some lovely tax returns until I told payroll to change it, but these days with high interest in bank accounts available it is not such a good strategy.

I use automatic payments to divide my pay up into a bunch of different accounts, so the money that I have available to spend is separate from the money put aside for bills or savings goals. Having everything divided up into smaller amounts earmarked for specific spending makes me much less likely to spend it on something less important than having it all in one place.

Sure did. I knew what I was doing and the implications of it, though. Having a percentage yoinked out and sent off, inaccessible for almost a year is perfect for me. One it’s done, it’s done, and there’s no reversing/backing out until tax time

The interest would probably still add up to be less than like 60 bucks over the course of the year, even with the highest interest savings accounts on the market. I decided that’s a worthwhile tradeoff for the security of having it completely hidden away
