I’m giving about 1/2 a week on those thongs, 1 week on the washing basket. 2 on the rug.

There’s a kind of toy called a “herding ball” that might be good for him.

It’s a weighted ball - you fill it with water or sand - that’s too big for him to get his mouth around it, so if he wants to take it anywhere he has to push it along and guide it so it comes with him. Basically he’d be proxy-herding it instead of you everywhere he goes. It might help give him an outlet and a job to do, so he’s productive instead of destructive.

Maybe herding tennis balls will help. My old kelpie/heeler cross loved his bicycle tyre on a rope tied to a tree branch. Hours of chewable and swingable fun.

So we’re all here because of a change in circumstances that none of us expected. I’m in my early 50s and a creature of habit, I don’t cope well with change. I used to enjoy Twitter, but it’s gone to shit, every third tweet is an irrelevant ad for something I’ve never expressed any interest in (crypto etc.). It’s pretty much unusable now. I used to subscribe to The Age, hard copy, home delivered. But then Nine took it over and it started to go down hill, to the point where it’s now the Herald Sun but for people who can read big words and long sentences. Pre-CoVid my favourite local bar was open five days a week, from at 5pm. I was usually the first in the door, and Fridays and Saturdays we’d be a big group handing a fair amount of money over the bar. Post-CoVid restrictions, the owners changed it to Fri/Sat only, late opening, and more of a club vibe to attract the younger crowd, so that killed it for me. I could go on, but this is turning into a bit of a rant, so I’ll just finish by saying that because of the way my brain is wired, I need routine and predictability, and I’m really over shit changing around me in every aspect of my life and having no say in it. How do you guys cope with change?

I don’t mind change. It helps me to learn things I wouldn’t normally seek. What I don’t like is that our community that I learnt so much from was basically deleted forcing people to splinter off. The more people, the wider range of topics, better the conversations. :(

I am grateful for this little corner :)

I’m grateful for this space too, really impressed how quickly we’ve adopted a new home.

I think I just want a stable and predictable (read: boring!) life these days, after decades of upheaval and forced changes that I wasn’t ready or prepared for.

I’ll let others reply with more serious answers but your post just gave me a thought which you may or may not enjoy:

People usually say “change is as good as a holiday” but as someone who doesn’t like change, you could say “change is as good as a holiday to Adelaide”

A lot of us are feeling this way with the loss of Reddit, I hadn’t realised that I used it daily for the last decade.

I think it isn’t as bad when you have something new and exciting to look forward to, like maybe you find another bar that ends up being better than the old one.

I was disappointed when Fairfax got bought and was hoping the newspapers wouldn’t be part of the deal.

I think humans naturally adapt - and that includes you. What did you do before Twitter, for example? And hell, you’re here, instead of the DT on Reddit. It’s similar, but there’s still change involved.

What I think is important is recognising that maybe the “change” takes a little longer to adopt, or adapt to when you’re older (and I say this as a late 30s individual who’s starting to notice things like this). But that’s okay, as long as we do evolve and change in some capacity. Otherwise we’d still be stuck in caves smashing rocks together to make fire.

I’ve never actually had ‘regular’ habits so accepting change is kind of easy.

Always had different groups of friends and interests growing up.

Even with work, I tend to change jobs every 3-4 years.

The only constant in my life for the past 20 years has been my wife and, more recently, kids.

Swapping a platform to talk shit with people ain’t no thing 😁

I miss the Age in its heyday too. There was proper in depth journalism, especially liked the weekend editions. There’s nothing the same anymore. It’s all easily digestible snippets or click bait. But anyway, reddit DT is back now and I’ll be using it because I like the interface better. I find it clunky and a bit too start-up here.

Oh my gosh yay I found you all. I have been so sad without the DT I missed everyone :-( Where else to post my anecdotes such as the following:

Woolies massively messed up my order today. Received half of some other family’s order. I have all their dairy, including a bunch of kids stuff. They presumably are the ones with my week’s worth of dinner meats, among other things. I am now the owner of 6L of milk, 3 tubs of spreadable butter, a ton of kids yoghurt pouches, and much more. I am going to have to see if any of the mums at play group want any of it.

Woolies had been suspiciously good with my orders there for a while, absolutely zero issues the past several orders. I feel like I’m being punished for finally trusting them lol! Waiting to hear about a refund…

Egh… this is the one reason why I don’t do home delivery of stuff. I feel like the stuff I actually need will never arrive, and so I’ll just be stuck with chocolate (well now… I guess things can’t be all that bad).

Also, yay for finding us! It’s now quite the same and there’s still a handful of regulars still wandering out in the wilderness somewhere, but for what it is, it’s still a nice place to come and chill :)

Getting there slowly, but stronger and geez more femme every day. The boost to my oestrgen levels last week and quitting booze have had marked effects on my mood. I’m teary but it’s cos I feel so in love with life at the moment. I planned to arrive at this moment and did.

I have so much to look forward to today and I’m grateful for everyone here for being here and sharing mine and your thoughts. So many kind and funny people in one place, this is the Melbourne we all know and love. The bits where we are not being tailgated down punt road or made to feel like pawns in a property investment scheme. People wonder why we love this place so much, it’s because of the people not the cool shops and so called liveability.

Happy pride, both rainbow and city!!

The drive in to work was pretty miserable, as was the walk to and from the car. I do believe that it is good to have a bit of unpleasantness to help us appreciate when we are warm and dry better. Or maybe that’s just my sour-grapes-style envy of people with garages connected to their houses.

I’m working from home as I picked up a cold late last week and don’t want to spread it throughout the office (like some people seem intent on doing). But I feel guilty being home in the comfort of my home when some of my coworkers would have had to trudge in through this weather.

My mums partner is addicted to his PlayStation. He doesn’t cook, clean, or help with anything when he’s not at work because he just spends all his time smoking, drinking, and playing PlayStation. Over the weekend, it shit itself. It doesn’t turn on. So he found an old Xbox 360 that my mum had in storage, and that worked for 24 hours before shitting itself too. Now he’s walking around the house, banging cupboards and being a cunt because he can’t play his videogames. Any minute now he’s gonna spin some story to blame me. Giant man baby

I was a longtime DT lurker and I’m stoked to have found this place. I’d barely been on reddit since the blackout began and just randomly checked it tonight to see if anythings going on, and saw the link to here on the reddit DT. I know it’s technically back or whatever but I’m pretty sure the app I use is shutting down at the end of the month anyway, and the official one is garbage so here I am. Maybe it’s meant to be. Unlikely to change lurker status beyond this though but we’ll see🫠

Well that was a miserably wet walk this morning. Mr Woof kept mostly dry with his raincoat on, but is still a bit wet around the ears so I’m getting the whole wet dog smell experience.

The good news is that Thursday is the turning point for the days gettting longer again (although I believe getting warmer lags behind that). I am looking forward to seeing a bit more sun. I know a lot of people have strong preferences for summer or winter, but I am definitely in camp autumn & spring, the extremes I could do without.
