I want to thank everyone for the insightful, thoughtful and very personal responses that were shared to my comment yesterday evening. Reading through that thread again this morning I’m deeply touched, and once again so happy to be part of a group of people who are so sharing of their knowledge and experience. Thankyou very, very much 🥹

What I found fascinating was the amount of ladies on here that didn’t necessarily fit into the mould of girly girl shit. My people. Girl power.

I saw that too. We have a nice little corner of the internet here, all a little bit weird but full of support.

I feel like these days there’s more peer pressure to fit into a mould younger and younger and to like and have opinions about things that they might not necessarily have thought about yet.

It’s good to validate mini peelers feelings but remember she’s very young and her feelings may change as time goes on. Hug her and tell her you love her no matter what and she can come to you no matter what.

Ps. You’re the listener. Don’t ask too many questions.

Don’t fuck with the system if the system is working. I don’t do yard work cos I’m pale and I burn easy and then I whinge. I’m best suited to inside work like reading and making cups of tea.

I come from a household where mum and dad both worked, both cooked, both did chores. I have 2 brothers and a sister. Nothing was ever boys or girls.

I could never imagine mothering my partner. It’s equal or nothing.

I can’t comment from a parent perspective, but have a friend who is proud to claim what they call a’full set’ a cis child, a trans one, and an enby. From knowing many people with interesting gender stories the earlier the better, ultimately it’s not about you. Hugs.

It might take some time. I’m sorry I didn’t get around to saying something about it.

It also takes a bit of confidence and not have an idea stuck in your head that it has to be that way.

I hope your little one will realise that she can be herself one day without worrying about other people.

    Broke a front tooth :(

It’s mostly made of composite material which means hopefully they’ll be able to rebuild it which has been the case in the past.

Not a great look though, makes me feel a bit self conscious.

Edit: in better news, I feel like a gazillion bucks after getting as much as sleep as I’ve had in over a year.

    Wooooooooooooooo!!!

Edit 2: add another 2 hours of sleep. Man that PT sesh yesterday must have destroyed me in a good way.

      Oh bugger.

I remember as a kid I fell off a skateboard and faceplanted and lost a bit of a front tooth. All the kids at school laughed at me :(

Surprisingly whatever the dentist did the composite stuff is still there 25 yrs on.

This calls for a rave choon

I’ve got a half front tooth as well, I hadn’t realised it was so trendy! Mine’s been there 31 years now, I guess the front tooth doesn’t get much wear to damage it.

My husband’s watching Jurassic Park and whenever I see dinosaurs it reminds me of YL’s very intelligent mad loving dinosaur friend. So his fixation is of course dinosaurs and that’s how he would start a conversation with you (diagnosed autistic later on).

One day he said something like some sort of dinosaur fact to a teacher and the moll replied “Dinosaurs aren’t real you know”.

10 years on and we still laugh about it. At the teacher of course.

Following the discussion yesterday on gendered toys, I just remembered how I used to play schools. The school had its own name and leadership structure. I had a relative who used to sew toys out of felt and sell them, and so I was given quite a few of those. I managed to make a class full of toys and each of them had an exercise book to do their work in that I would mark. I even did school photos with my shitty tablet at the time. The ‘naughty’ kids would be sent under my bed for a time out sort of thing.

I have a lot of great memories watching my daughter and her dad playing school with all her toys.

One very memorable one was when the dog would walk through the classroom roughing up the students. My daughter announces “kids this is Toby. Our new special needs student. Say hello”. Me leaving the room to giggle.

    “Treats or too early?”

Edit: had 2 x 3 hour chunks of sleep and I feel amazing. I’d forgotten what feeling OK getting up was like.

I mis-timed the dog walk badly and we both ended up quite soggy. Mr Woof got the wet dog zoomies, hurtling up and down the hallway using Miss Meow as a hurdle.

Edit: Actually, the timing could have been worse. It’s absolutely bucketing down now.
