Alright, 7 hours after the issue with the electrics was first noticed, the sparky finally sorted it. Apparently in our main connection box thing (the little black box that connects the main street wires to the house) had a lose connection inside. Apparently that can manifest as crackling in power points, lamps flickering, fire panels making grinding noises, emergency lights going on and smoke alarms acting funny. And, I’m going to sound like a houso here (interestingly, urgent after hours repairs in state care homes are handled by the housing commission maintenance people too), but that was absolutely cooked in the head

But goodness, I’ve always been taught to be like really scared of electricity which I suppose makes sense, but then the electrician is just plodding around with live mains wires and poking them with plyers. That definitely did reassure me that I would’ve been safe though

Also I need to be up in 6 hours, but naturally I’m here bitching on Lemmy about electricity instead of sleeping. Night peoples, and don’t fuck with electricity, unless you’re a confident sparky, in which case, poke away with plyers as much as you’d like!

That’s good that it’s all fixed now but seriously if your power board doesn’t have a safety switch please get one that does.

I think it does? I’m not sure, it’s a fairly cheap one from Kmart but from memory I thought that all the boards Kmart sold had surge protection. I wouldn’t really know how to find out, but I’m like 95% sure it does

It’ll have a little red button on it. It’s a reset button. You hold it in for a few seconds to activate.

I’m pretty sure it has a button, but I don’t think it’s red

Ahhh when the world is falling apart and nothing is going right - there’s nothing quite like disappearing into an op-shop for a few hours and coming out feeling like a new person (or maybe that’s just me…)

Back in melbs. I felt instantly sad. Despite tuning into my fave stations and patting the cat and getting that legendary 100kmh sign on Citylink.

    That’s no good :(

Was going back home after getting a haircut and saw the sad sacks screaming COVID is a scam and one said “getting the jab will kill you”. Was in half a mind to say “I’m still alive mate” but then realised A) it’s not worth engaging the fools and B) I’m super non confrontational.

On another note, my head feels cold now after the haircut.

Also, Queen Vic market is such a sensory overload!! Jeez

Husband is baffled and jelly at the fact i went to bed four hours after he did last night, got up the same time as him this morning, did more strenuous work today for longer, and am planning on another six hours of totk while he tapped out for sleep at 9. Poor bubbah.

Gotten the Tears companion app? Nice completionist run there. And i found a whole new slew of quests!

(Also when that’s done you can do what i did in botw which was get 999 ancient arrows so I could screencap and make a friend shit themselves, then started seeing if i could max out ALL inventory items…)

I think the thing I love most about steam trains is how much happiness they bring with them. The people on the train obviously tend to be fairly happy, but on top of that all the people lineside who waited half an hour to watch a train go past for 10 seconds are all happy too. Saw a bus driver in Ballarat who had pulled his bus over and stood in the doorway watching us go past. We also ended up in a race with a Frankston bound metro ok our way back and it was a constant cycle of them pulling ahead of us, then us overtaking them when they stopped. Most the usually depressed looking commuters had gigantic grins on their faces waving at us at we went past. Many old folks watched us fly by while (I presume) reminiscing about the days a steam train was not uncommon to see, as well as countless young’ns watching us go past too

Steam trains really are the best ^even if they do have a habit of starting bushfires ^

If you haven’t already, head down to Queenscliff and hang at the Murray / Fellows Rd. intersection. You will get choo choo toots to the face 6 times a day :)

E: and many waves. Lotsa hellos.
