You know those stories people tell when they had gastro, and they are sitting on the toilet whilst holding a bucket at the same time because they needed to do both at once? I thought that was very much an exaggeration or a story you tell kids to frighten them into washing their hands. Nope. It is real.

Apparently i gotta keep hydrated, but how the hell am i supposed to do that when i drink water and double the amount I just drank “leaves” me?

I found there was a lesser leaving effect if I had those hyrdolite icy poles.

a bit of salt/sugar in the water can help with electrolytes. It’d be worth seeing if someone could drop some off to you. HMU if you’re near Springvale, I can drop off a tub of sports drink powder.

Yep been there. Whist on an overseas holiday. Could not leave the hotel room for 24 hours. Was starting to panic about what to do if it keeps going but thankfully seemed to resolve. Don’t know if it was food poisoning or gastro, but single worst sick day ever. Sipping something very slowly through straw helps to get liquids in. Cold drinks and ice.

I’m feeling weird because I bought a $65k car today and it feels like it should be more of a big deal or something but it’s also kinda not a big deal. I think it might just be weird nerves for dropping that much cash so suddenly but I’m sure I’ve made a good choice. Between the US trip, PC monitor, new years cruise and the new car I’ve been spending big in the 2nd half of this year. Is this a mid-life crisis or realisation that you have to enjoy life while you can? I did turn 40 a few months before all of this spending.

I think part of our brains are devoted to very simplistic pattern learning, and it does not respond well to nuance or change. So while you are not spending it is learning concepts like “bank balance go up = good, bank balance go down = bad”. It completely misses the entire point of why you put money aside, so when you spend it that simple brain becomes a bit alarmed. It makes a useful warning system to double check with your rational brain if you are doing the right thing, but it can be tricky to disarm when it is giving a false alarm.

I had a nice chat with my boss (she’s resigned and I’m very sad about it). We discussed my career development and what she will do till her last day to support me. Also that I can always reach out to her anytime about anything (after she finishes up) which was super nice of her. She’s an amazing boss I’m gonna miss her heaps 😢😢😢

She also noted that I have quite high EQ and that I’d be ok without her and ngl that made me feel good lol 😆

I remember when these first came out, they were so amazingly decadent, expensive and reserved for very special occasions. Ice cream in general has gotten a lot more decadent since then, and there are so many amazing options.

This was at the Ringwood one - they had a few tubs of good ice creams quite cheap too. Ben & Jerry’s choc mint and salted caramel for example (which I vividly recall because I don’t like either flavour, and that was what I was orignally planning to get)

Assuming you got up at 7. On average, it’s one (1) every 1 hour and 15 minutes. You have until noon.

I’m about to head out and test drive that Subaru. Apparently it only has about 200km on the clock so if I love it I might just pull the trigger quickly. It’d be like buying a new car without having to wait months for it.

If anybody has any tips for haggling/dealing with buying a new/demo car please shout them out. I haven’t bought one since 2010 so I’m a bit rusty.

I bought my car in 2006, so I’m even rustier. (Rusty by name, rusty by nature…)

I bought a new Subaru, and my car buying technique was to research what I wanted online, including getting a quote from a broker. Walked into the dealership, said “I want one of those” and got a price. Got offered a discount plus accessories for a car built in the last year (which apparently makes a difference to people) which would save me a few thousand so took that. Agreed for them to give me a quote for finance and was surprised when it was a better deal than the pre-approval I had already arranged, so went with that too. Car arrived a few weeks later and I still have it.

Basically, I did everything they say you should not do and it worked out really well. 🤣

Realistically I think the best thing is to make sure you know what price range you think is reasonable in advance and what features/problems actually matter to you. Then disregard everything else the salesperson says to try and sway or distract you. Trying to focus on tricks and techniques for haggling tend to just be a distraction to you. Know what you want and ask for it. Know what you will accept if you can’t get best case, and be prepared to walk away if you can’t get it.

It’s done. I bought it lol

I pretty much followed what you said here. I had an idea of what the car was worth, what promotions were available (2 years free servicing) and a rough figure on a trade-in for my car. They came in low on my trade-in figure so I managed to bump them up a couple of grand to where I was happy to settle. Otherwise there are things I would have had to do to the car to get it ready to sell privately and then the fees for selling privately etc… it wasn’t worth the hassle.

I pick it up early next week! Wooo new car summer!

Just about everyone I’ve spoken to or have seen online who has had a Subaru seems to rave about them. It definitely helped make the decision to pull the trigger. It’s the Outback Touring XT 50 Years Edition, so Touring features/insides with the Sport outsides.

Shit… I forgot to apply for that energy compare subsidy and probably have missed the cutoff.

Trying to be kind to myself because things suck right now and it’s full survival mode but I really wish I hadn’t been so distracted. Small savings don’t go too far when you miss big ones. And I used to be so organised.

Edit: Yes. The cutoff date was 31st August and I forgot to write it down. FUCK. I seriously need to set a calendar reminder for the next one

Ok it’s in the digital calendar now and set to repeat yearly 😤

Amazon just sent me a message that the item which was estimated for delivery tomorrow, but actually delivered yesterday, is now on board for delivery today. I do not think their delivery tracking system is working properly.

The best option for flammable kitty litter is to get it second hand after the fire brigade use it to soak up a diesel spill.
