Middle-income tech nerd criticises Gina Rinehart for:

    1. Being completely out of touch with Australians.
    2. Constantly releasing media statements on issues like we should care what she thinks (and the media for publishing them).
    3. Being on the wrong side of history on just about every topic.
    4. Her awful poetry. Seriously, mine is better and I don’t write poetry.
    5. Complaining that paying people in Australia more money than she pays workers in African nations is an issue, while choosing to live in Australia and being a parasite on us.
    6. For defending a dude who did do some amazing heroic stuff as well as well as committing war crimes, domestic abuse, bullying and generally being a jerk.

Whether we like it or not, she is one of the most powerful woman in Australian.

She controls a significant amount of Australia’s natural ressources. She inherited that tax-free.

Because of Australia’s Campaign Finance Law, she is allowed to wire massive amounts of money to political parties :

      https://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/who-are-the-biggest-donors-to-australias-political-parties/ojow9dhy3

To move around, the leader of the opposition used her own private jet

      https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2024/oct/31/peter-dutton-flights-gina-rinehart-jet-albanese-qantas-upgrades-ntwnfb

So yes, what she thinks is, unfortunately, very important. Not all citizens are equal.

        I disagree.

During a campaign, ok - her political alignment is relevant in so far as who she’s donating to.

Otherwise her statements of opinion on political matters are not at all relevant and I don’t see the value in reporting it.

It might get clicks but does that mean it should be reported?

It’s a loss for the guardian to be parroting trumpette’s opinion.

“Billionaire has a shit take on situation.” isn’t exactly cutting edge journalism.

The general public can always use more reminders that billionaires are terrible people who stole their wealth from the people who produced it.

Yeah, guardian have been going hard on Gina with that pidcast of theirs as well. Didn’t listen to it but it must have a fair bit of background to ‘her’ fortune in it.
