reading some posts on various discussion boards about western tv shows and so many people comment on how First Nations people of America have beautiful and cool names.
I think people have forgotten we have beautiful names too, we just use very old forms of our names so in everyday life we forget the true meaning.
Mine is from Hyacinthus, the lover of Apollo, killed by a discus to the head. Possibly by accident, or possibly by a jealous Zephyrus (the west wind) who was upset Hyacinthus didn’t love him and preferred Apollo.
Also makes me laugh because I loved Keeping up Appearances
“It’s pronounced Bouquet” 😂
I’ve already doxxed myself here a few times so I’m not fussed sharing my etymology.
I only fear my ex finding me, but I suspect they don’t know this place exists so idc too much.
They know my username on Reddit, which is how they contact me to reel me back in. Little do they know that, in comparison to them, I’m thriving. They’re just rotting away in their parents one room, no bathroom, no kitchen, backyard bungalow 😂 not even allowed to have their old bedroom back because it’s stocked full of MLM merch. Love that for them.
Twin! Twin Racer?
Bottom Twin has a ring to it but also certain connotations 😂
Mine is just the female version of a male name derived from Hyacinthus. Common in Spain and South America, of which I am neither lol! German/English/French ancestry here lol
George Foreman named 4 of his sons George. One daughter’s name is Georgette and I think a couple of his girls have George as their middle name. This makes me laugh.
I would call that narcissism. Would be different if other people chose to call their kids after him, but to do that to all your kids - guess who wants little copies of himself? Even the girls.
Also celeb culture. I’m named after a great-great-aunt, who was named after one Queen Victoria’s daughters cos g-g-a was born in the same year as said daughter.
I’m hoping no-one, I say no-one, will name their unfortunate girlchild Karen in the foreseeable future.

In my circle some people’s names mean:
Beautiful Maiden
Mercy
Beloved of God
Protector
Noble Born
Vigilant
Lover of Horses
God of Fire
Free Man
Bringer of Light
Mine means: From/of the Ocean. (My dad was a diehard surfer until his reconstructed hips gave out on him at around 68 y.o)

You are? Gracious, would never have guessed.
That show was so fucking underrated.
I think people overdo the doxxing fear thing. I understand there are many genuine concerns if in the past someone’s had issues w/ it though.
Anyway my first name means ‘Twin’. That’s it heh.

Ick.
Agreed. It’s bizarre but it still makes me laugh.
My real name is the Arabic word for noble. Yay me i suppose lol
Gibson, derived from ol’ english Gilbert, meaning bright pledge or shining hostage. Somehow I don’t believe Gibson is the hostage in this situation.
Send help!
often the meanings of names are themselves archaic
in modern usage I would say gibson would mean holy promise, prayer, a dedication, a holy act of kindness
I patiently await the acts of kindness lol /jk
I too am noble.
I think there’s still a few with literal meanings, but they’ve gone out of fashion. Eg Dawn, Sage, Ruby, Victor.
