Is it just me, or were boxing Day sales cancelled this year? Went to the shops today for the regular weekly groceries, and it was pretty normal. No extra crowds, stores had regular looking signage and patrons.
I know it was Boxing Day +2, but still it would have been busy still on previous years.
I haven’t seen any amazing deals go past my feeds online either.
I reckon the sales have been shit for ten years. People realised and the shops started that predictive ordering where they get about the right amount so there’s not much actually left over for sales. I’m sure they’ll chuck a 50% off on some piece of shit so the discount can be painted across the front of the shop as a lure.
They also have more ability to order and receive stock quickly so don’t need to carry as much stock themselves, and don’t generally do a big physical stocktake of inventory that was the impetus behind the Boxing Day sales (I haven’t even heard them called a stocktake sale in years).
Yeah, they discount all the stuff that choice magazine have given shit ratings to lol.
I miss those days when a throng of adults would be squished up against the Myer doors waiting for them to open then stampede through the store like a raging bull was about to impale them. The good old days.
Maybe the Black Friday sales have taken the spending. Seems it was a bigger sales event than Boxing Day.
I felt the same, no genuine bargains that made me think, “now that’s cheap.” And some places put up the prices so much that if they put them down a bit I thought, “pfft, that’s not a discount, that’s what the price used to be.”
