Would it be possible to start a new orca fad?

Possible and possibly desirable. They are interesting creatures. But what fad would interest them enough to take it up and, er, swim with it? Seaweed garlands around their tails? The latest post punk ghost net fin streamers? I really liked the salmon hat thing that the Washington (I think) pod had going there for a while. Certainly these creatures are well able to mess with researchers’ heads. Sort of like cats in a way.

I think the real question is, how do orcas get the salmon to stay on their heads as hats?

They are really big salmons. Plus I think they only wear them for a while, eat them, then get another one.

Their current fad appears to be attacking boats, at least for one pod that is.

To us, apparently not. Tough, stringy and tasting of old socks and urine. Stale urine. Whale meat is not nice. Source: my dad who had to eat the stuff during WWII. Protein is protein though and whale meat wasn’t rationed. Possibly because no-one wanted to eat it twice.

I have eaten more whale meat than I really care to admit (used to live in a whaling town and was too polite to turn down the food cooked for me). It can be quite tasty, depending on how it’s cooked. Fried it just tastes like bacon because there’s a lot of fat in it.
