I put on my grown up pants today and called to book in for a new mental health plan and reached out to a psych for an appointment. She specialises in depression and trauma but can also do adult adhd assessments so I’m hoping she can help me unpick some things. I’m not in crisis (which I have been every other time I’ve sought help) so I’m feeling partly good about this and partly feeling like I am wasting everyone’s time and they will think I’m bunging it on … and that folks is why I need help unpicking some stuff !

But geez louise there’s proper money required even with the rebates. faark this system - It shouldn’t be a privilege to be able to seek help.

I’ve got on my list to get a new mental health care plan as well, it’s time to invest in my MH again as I’ve felt myself slipping a bit lately. This post has motivated me to make a booking.

The cost for appointments is ridiculous even after the rebate. I called last week to find out the updated prices of the place I used to go for therapy, and they’ve hiked so much just in the 18 months since I last went.

Good on you for taking next steps, it’s not easy but it is very necessary. Having just done that today though, good lord I hear you on the costs - I won’t listen to a thing the Feds spruik around MH until they put more money into subsidising treatment. Especially if MH is impacting your earning capacity…

Good on you for doing such a positive thing for yourself. I know what you mean about the rebates; 10 subsidised sessions and you’re on your own. I’ve had the same issues with elder Minipeeler needing therapy this year.

It’s expensive to be ill, unfortunately, and a lot of healthcare still seems to treat mental health as a cosmetic thing, like teeth, or eyes.

Although there is a bitter irony in that to get diagnosed and treated for ADHD, you need to make a bunch of appointments and things, which someone with ADHD would struggle with.
