Are you really just going to go fully into “it was a false flag” within minutes of an attempted assassination?

Staged it as a political stunt? Him getting grazed by a bullet? While he’s already AHEAD?

Jesus. We’re in dark times. Please keep your wits about you. The project to avoid falling into fascism does not get easier by having more people break with reality.

Thank you. The number of people insisting that it’s fake is insane. There are reports that the shooter and an audience member are dead.

They’re talking about how to win an election.

You know, the thing Blues have been so desperately shouting on all platforms? The “VOOOOTTTTTTT” that incessantly appears here?

I’m not sure why I’m surprised liberals are just rolling over and waiting to die instead of doing literally anything to increase their chance of winning.

Sounds like 2025 isn’t such an existential threat after all to the DNC.

If it is actually fake, wait for a while until there’s plenty of evidence about it. Rushing to make such declarations only makes it extremely likely that you fuck up somehow. You can just say that it seems suspicious to you in the meantime.

And on top of that, people on the other side are claiming that the secret services intentionally left Trump exposed to a terrorist attack. Conspiracies are going to thrive on both sides, that will promote sectarianism, and things will get violent sooner.

Have you ever heard of the Boy Who Cried Wolf? Trump used up all his “benefit of the doubt” from me. There is nothing he wouldn’t do. Didn’t he say he could ask his followers to murder someone and they’d do it?* What stops him from getting a rabid fanatic to shoot at him and then shoot himself? I don’t think it’s likely at all, but I wouldn’t be surprised. That so many people on Reddit (which is much more conservative than lemmy) think the same, shows that a LOT of people are cynical with him

“I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?” Trump remarked at a campaign stop at Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. “It’s, like, incredible.”

Sounds like premeditation. I do not think he cares even slightly about the deaths (he didn’t care about Ashli Babbitt). And also I have long suspected he had something to do with his ex wife’s death. He doesn’t really seem to care about people like others. Eg raping a 12 year old. Raping the aforementioned wife when his hair surgery didn’t turn out. The dude is a monster; these are things psychopaths do. He’d do something like this.

Eta: I’ve seen numerous TT Lives specifically asking if it was staged or not. That many many people IMMEDIATELY suspected this at least shows how much this country trusts him. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTNyyJfgh/

If it was a matter of Trump in a rally saying he had been shot at, I’d be right there with you. When all the news media are confirming that there are multiple dead and wounded, people being airlifted, blood in the bleachers, etc., I’m not going to say it was a hoax.

Yeah as info is being released I am thinking it is probably authentic. I still think he’d kill his own people to win the election though, the bodies don’t mean anything - except that there were live bullets fired and i don’t think he’d be okay with that around his precious self. However, most of his family were NOT at this rally.

I don’t think it’ll seal it, but I think the whole Democratic dream of doing nothing and hoping that he says unpopular things and Biden can win without going out in public is completely dead.

We need a healthy, vibrant candidate to run aggressively against him. He can be stopped at the ballot box, but that will need an active, dynamic effort. It won’t happen on it’s own, which was clearly Biden’s campaign’s plan A.

It’s time for him to focus on being president and let Harris go out and make the case that she’s the right person to manage the four years.

It’ll be interesting to see how he responds to this. I think an appropriate message would be something like, ‘This is terrible: assassinations only weaken democracy, and so no matter how great the threat Trump poses, his defeat must be electoral.’

To quote Dubya, I don’t think Biden “does nuance”. I doubt he’s equipped. Perhaps this big event will give him an excuse to exist the race and say it’s because of something other than the debate performance.

Look no one is paying you to pretend to care. So you can drop the act of being desperately worried, monocle dropping, about those poor dears in America.

If every single one of those Washington DC fucks died tomorrow it would bother me less than the funny smell my car’s air conditioner is now making. They don’t give a shit about me so why should I give a shit about them?

I hate to say this, but … the shooter IS antifa. That’s what antifa means.

It’s not an organization with member rolls. It’s a term for people who are prepared to fight fascism by any means necessary, which I think it’s clear this person thought they were doing.

It’s a shitty situation to be in if you don’t like fascism. But there’s no use in getting semantic or trying to polish facts. This is where we’re at.

Personally, I have been saying for YEARS now something that seems consistently unpopular but true: “punching Nazis” is strategically ineffective. Justified? Yeah. Gratifying? Surely. A good strategy if you don’t want to live under fascism? Definitively not. It is choosing to embrace a playing field tilted wildly against us. Like it or not, we’re now on that field.

If you’re thinking of buying a gun right now, don’t. Instead, make sure you know all your neighbors by name. Plant gardens and stock up on canned goods. Put your efforts into putting people in positions of local power who are prepared to defend against either state terrorism or militia terrorism.

We cannot win with violence. Violence may be necessary defensively, but as an offensive strategy it is a tactical mistake, and we all need to accept that.

I agree with your tautology, and it is an interesting point. I also agree with building communities.

I also agree with the fact that punching Nazis is ineffective.

I think the allies in WW2 brought other things to bear to solve that problem.

That’s a great point: I’m not saying that you have to draw them a footbath. Sometimes violence is necessary. But it’s gotta be part of a larger strategy to remove their sources of power. Domestically, direct physical street confrontations and assassinations seem to usually belie a lack of larger strategic goal.

                I’m saying that it’s tautological.

If you try and kill a fascist because you’re opposed to fascism, you’re a black-bloc antifascist. I suppose it could come out that the shooter was purely delusional and was trying to kill Trump for fame or because of hallucinations, but it seems pretty obvious to me that this was political violence against fascism. That’s what antifa means. Am I missing something?

Well, a black bloc is a civil disobedience technique typical to anarchist groups that has nothing to do with allegiance. It’s a tactic of concealing your identity while operating in a group, typically at a direct action event. They all wear all black. And act as a group. Hence the name. It’s not just a catch-all phrase for anti fascist action.

Black-bloc is a tactic, specifically a group tactic. If the assassin’s motivation was to stop fascism, they’re antifa through the tautological technicality. But the gunman was not black-bloc.

Maga will use any excuse to crack down on groups that organize under the antifascist banner, but this will definitely be one of them.

Yea, it’s fucked up. When there are 10 shootings a month, they don’t care. When they are shot, the world is ending and soon enough you get the

        Palpatine speech:

"Citizens of the civilized galaxy, on this day we mark a transition. For a thousand years, the Republic stood as the crowning achievement of civilized beings. But there were those who would set us against one another, and we took up arms to defend our way of life against the Separatists. In so doing, we never suspected that the greatest threat came from within.

The Jedi, and some within our own Senate, had conspired to create the shadow of Separatism using one of their own as the enemy’s leader. They had hoped to grind the Republic into ruin. But the hatred in their hearts could not be hidden forever. At last, there came a day when our enemies showed their true natures.

The Jedi hoped to unleash their destructive power against the Republic by assassinating the head of government and usurping control of the clone army. But the aims of would-be tyrants were valiantly opposed by those without elitist, dangerous powers. Our loyal clone troopers contained the insurrection within the Jedi Temple and quelled uprisings on a thousand worlds.

The remaining Jedi will be hunted down and defeated! Any collaborators will suffer the same fate. These have been trying times, but we have passed the test. The attempt on my life has left me scarred and deformed, but I assure you my resolve has never been stronger. The war is over. The Separatists have been defeated, and the Jedi rebellion has been foiled. We stand on the threshold of a new beginning. In order to ensure our security and continuing stability, the Republic will be reorganized into the first Galactic Empire, for a safe and secure society, which I assure you will last for ten thousand years. An Empire that will continue to be ruled by this august body and a sovereign ruler chosen for life. An Empire ruled by the majority, ruled by a new constitution!

By bringing the entire galaxy under one law, one language, and the enlightened guidance of one individual, the corruption that plagued the Republic in its later years will never take root. Regional governors will eliminate the bureaucracy that allowed the Separatist movement to grow unchecked. A strong and growing military will ensure the rule of law.

Under the Empire’s New Order, our most cherished beliefs will be safeguarded. We will defend our ideals by force of arms. We will give no ground to our enemies and will stand together against attacks from within or without. Let the enemies of the Empire take heed: those who challenge Imperial resolve will be crushed.

We have taken on a task that will be difficult, but the people of the Empire are ready for the challenge. Because of our efforts, the galaxy has traded war for peace and anarchy for stability. Billions of beings now look forward to a secure future. The Empire will grow as more planets feel the call, from the Rim to the wilds of unknown space.

Imperial citizens must do their part. Join our grand star fleet. Become the eyes of the Empire by reporting suspected insurrectionists. Travel to the corners of the galaxy to spread the principles of the New Order to barbarians. Build monuments and technical wonders that will speak of our glory for generations to come.

The clone troopers, now proudly wearing the name of Imperial stormtroopers, have tackled the dangerous work of fighting our enemies on the front lines. Many have died in their devotion to the Empire. Imperial citizens would do well to remember their example.

The New Order of peace has triumphed over the shadowy secrecy of shameful magicians. The direction of our course is clear. I will lead the Empire to glories beyond imagining. We have been tested, but we have emerged stronger. We move forward as one people: the Imperial citizens of the first Galactic Empire. We will prevail. Ten thousand years of peace begins today."

So I ordered a party player of spicy chicken wings for game night. Figure 7 D&D players no way that is going to be enough. Everyone ended up eating dinner before they came, resulting in lots of leftovers.

Don’t worry, I have a friend with three teenagers. Hate seeing food go to waste and knowing those kids they polished it off in 20 minutes.

Maybe I will make mini pizza bagels next time. Thoughts?
