Since Knox went to the green-blue-yellow bin rotation (rubbish and recycling fortnightly, green waste weekly), the idiots over the road either don’t care or don’t understand and just put all their bins out every week and add to the uncollected bin there. This makes the uncollected bins more and more overflowing, and the crows very pleased. They currently have a bin each to themselves until Tuesday morning, with food options not unlike the old Smorgies buffet restaurant.

That said, if interest rates go much higher, I might be fighting them for the leftovers.

No one in our street puts their bins out until my husband does. On the one time he couldn’t remember which one went out, he looks out and 3 houses had all of them out. Then he remembers, 10 minutes later you hear all the correct bins being wheeled out.

It’s hilarious. I call him the binfluencer. I should take a photo.

The street binfluencer should get an honorarium or public holiday. Songs should be written for them, for they are the quiet heroes.

It’s not really on honour to be leader of dickheads but I give him a pat every now and again.

Another interesting fact: Neighbours watch him mow and whipper snip the nature strip and come and compliment him on what a great job he does which I find fucking weird. He once received a gift for doing such a great job. Quote from the guy across the road “I admire what you do here” as he hands him a large bottle of extra strength weed killer.

Some people really are not competent at bin management, and definitely don’t deal well with changes to the system. You should count yourself luck they don’t also put out the small kitchen caddy.

During the first month or so I did try to rationalise it: Knox (Boronia) has a glut of blocks building 5 or more two bedroom, 1 garage townhouses, and most have no outdoor space (it got used by the obligatory water tank and shed/box.)

With no backyard to mow, they didn’t have or need a green waste bin, but this year they’ve had to take one, and there’s nowhere to put it. To make things worse, the waste bin is now a fortnightly pickup, and anyone with a pet now has two weeks of ripeness instead of one.

Over the border in Maroondah they have gone for keeping the landfill bin weekly and having the recycling and green waste fortnightly, which means the food scraps build up for two weeks which some people are not happy about. I am all for recycling, but I’m not sure the present solution of lots of big bins for every household works well, and the introduction of the purple glass bins are just going to add to the problem.

Can’t imagine the stink of the nappy bin after sitting in the sun for a week and a half. Hope Knox slashed your rates to compensate with the massive saving they just made themselves.

Yarra ranges did the same and charged us all extra for a compulsory green bin. Even though a large population are on acreage and never had/ need green bin. I want a rate discount.
