Nah, this is lemmy. Mastodon is the fediverse ‘twitter’ equivalent.
Edit: from Wikipedia: The fediverse (a portmanteau of “federation” and “universe”) is an ensemble of federated (i.e. interconnected) servers that are used for web publishing (i.e. social networking, microblogging, blogging, or websites) and file hosting, which, while independently hosted, can communicate with each other.
@StudChud@TinyBreak I am fascinated with this process as people discuss the Fediverse, not realising they are now part of the Fediverse. I think I need to start making some diagrams to help explain it.
@StudChud I know, I was alluding rather to the comment you were responding to (but in not as humorous a fashion as you did, to be fair) but also that I’m seeing this a bit in some Rexxit refugees, who haven’t grokked yet that Mastodon and Lemmy & Kbin are all part of the Fediverse, and they are able to be viewed, commented on and interacted with, from each other.
It is definitely amusing, but I’m not surprised people haven’t heard of the fediverse, or know how it works. But it’s definitely a good thing, as more users will bring more content to this federation, and improvements.
@StudChud it absolutely is! It’s a very exciting development. It’s how the Internet was meant to be all along, before we got told we had to join specific sites to have access to community. That has always made me very, very angry and it’s fantastic seeing people realise how far we’ve gone down this path, that it leads inevitably to bad things, and that there is an alternative.
Sorry what is the fediverse? Is this mastodon?
Let me help you with that. It’s when a whole heap of servers get together and communicate yada yada yada zzzzzzzz. I hope that helps.
It’s just not cricket hey.
You’ll have to wait till Thursday or Friday for that.
That’s correct. Cricket is for those that don’t like to think that hard.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s

?
I am aware lemmy is part of the fediverse…
edit: diagrams might help with comprehension for those who have not heard, or know little, of the fediverse. ☺️

My apologies, I’m a bit cranky today lol.

That would be great if you could do that. Please include cats and dogs in your diagram.
and bacon.
Yessssss
This whole Lemmy thing is just a component of the “federated universe “, to include Mastodon, Kbin, and various other nodes.
The report highlights
rapid user growth (as well as a massive influx of spam bots)
The rumours about Meta dipping into the fediverse with a microblogging server
FBI raids on Anarchist servers
Other fun stuff that might be of interest to new people like me who are like a babe wandering the wood.👶
Riiiiight. Sounds a little too blockchain Web 3.0 for me to even try wrap my head around it.
