Alright then. New account. For anyone else, aussie.zone is miles quicker than lemmy.world. Also - stringent vetting process, but fair play

Did aussie.zone from the getgo. No issues on my laptop. Haven’t tried to do the app(s).

Oh, I think I went through aussie.zone originally. I hadn’t had any the issues that others have seemed to mention with logging in.

Yeah. lemmy.world was fine up until a couple of days ago. I think their servers have hit capacity. I was getting 404 errors and such.

They grew too quick. I just checked and they aren’t even using Cloudflare for caching/ddos protection etc… That seems insane for a large instance as it only takes a few minutes to setup.

Yep, there are hundreds of servers linked together in what is called the fediverse. I’m posting this comment from a server I setup today. It’s a pretty cool concept.

Yeah, if you click on my username you’ll notice it’s something like @hanhula because I’m accessing this thread through Kbin. Unlike Reddit and Twitter, which are centralised on one site, the fediverse is more like your email. We can all access the same posts and comment on them as if I’m on Facebook and you’re on Twitter, just like how you can email me from Hotmail even though I use Gmail.

I’m personally using kbin because it’s a more reddit-like vibe visuals-wise, but there’s really no downside to using whichever instance you like.
