Quick question, do you mean the actual NBN box or a router?

I could be completely wrong here as I’m going off second hand info and cba verifying, but aren’t those boxes coded to a specific outside box? What I’m getting at, is it a new one that you’re being shipped from what ever provider you’re using and doesn’t need setting up or is it your old one you’ve shipped to yourself?

I believe they are coded to specific addresses or whatever the NBNs version of an NMI (like on power meters) is. The old one is staying at the old house, it wouldn’t work here anyways, even ignoring any binding that may be active, as the old house has HFC while this new house has FTTC and what I’m pretty sure is an RJ11 jack (though I could be wrong). You aren’t meant to take the connection device (the NBN branded box) with you under any circumstances, and it is kinda like the old foxtel boxes in that they remain property of the NBN who just give them to your house for free

But whoever lived here last either took it with them, or never had one. Requests for a new one are lodged through your ISP who then order one from the NBN on your behalf and free of charge, who express post it from their head office up in Sydney

They’re also basically little black magic boxes you can see, but never truly touch. As far as I’m aware, there’s no setting it up, nothing to log into, and nothing you yourself can do to it. You plug it into the power, then one end into the wall, and the other end into your router

My router is all good, no troubles there. But without the connection box I can’t really do anything

Sounds like you know what you’re doing, I apologise, I was only replying in case you wanted free tech support ❤️

No, not at all! I appreciate the help! Sorry if I was coming across rude or anything, not my intention at all. Half checking my understanding if anything

Unfortunately don’t think there’s much to do except wait. Or maybe I could ring up my ISP again and be like “nah I never got it and it’s almost been 2 weeks! Not sure whats happening there. Would you be able to send another please?” Haha

Sorry, I thought I’d explained it a few times

It’s what they call the “connection device” I’m waiting on. It’s the little NBN branded box that plugs into the wall and has a single Ethernet port that you then plug your router into which gets everything working

I don’t think you need one if you have FTTP, but I only have FTTC

Huh! There you go lol! I had no idea, never worked in IP services so I’m lacking in that area haha!

Yeah I’ve only lived in areas that are fttp, so I missed that you require an extra techy doodad for fttc! My bad!

Nah it’s all good! It’s a pain, and ngl I’m jealous. I reeeeeeaaaaaalllllly want FTTP. The last place has HFC, which also needs a box so I’m used to it

As someone on gigabit HFC that I max out I would be jealous of your FTTP and its potential.

For FTTP they install a hardwired box on a wall inside your house.
