Walked past the Australian Red Cross opshop in Bridge road during lunchtime - They’re doing a sale of jeans for “from $5”. Which is a huge discount on their regular prices. Their stock is good but comparatively exxy imo.
I’m not necessarily opposed to supporting religious orgs since it is hard to find op shops that aren’t (not that there isn’t, like Savers isn’t religious-based iirc). But I’d rather support other places than salvos who are pretty known to be anti-sex work/lgbtqia+/homeless/basically anything.
Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever shopped at Salvos. Only opshops I’ve bought from is Vinnie’s, but I also volunteered there for experience and Savers because my partner works there. But I do try and avoid salvos because of it. But I am quite lucky that there are other options nearby. I imagine if that’s your only opshop for a while then I don’t fault anyone from buying from there.
Haven’t been to a salvos op shop since I was looking for a cheapish but not terrible couch and they were selling one of those cane ones with foam cushions from the 70s for $300!
That’s just taking the piss to another level. My daughter loves op shops and Salvos is the closest. Generally I find savers to have the best deals and the best selection.

Red Cross is the rip-offiest op shop.
Brotherhood of St Lawrence and Salvos also can be way overpriced.
My local salvos would like a word. Used Scrabble game (with missing letters probably) was priced at $15.

I only recently learned that Savers is a US company that owns Value Village (which was my local op shop back in Canada).
