Heads up for you Vline folk, on the 8th they’ll be striking again from 3am to 4pm (so with prep times, there probably won’t be any trains before 5pmish)

Good day to chuck a sickie or WFH if you can. Otherwise may God have mercy on your stomach, on all those stinky bumpy coaches

(This hasn’t been publicly announced yet, just to be clear, and it’s possible Vline might backpedal and agree to the unions demands, although the union has agreed on the strike, so if they don’t it’s probably going to happen.) RTBU update here (warning: auto download)

If I lived far enough out that I needed V/Line to get to work, I’d make arrangements to work from home most of the time, anyway. I would not relish commuting in by V/Line daily. Even from as close as Geelong. Three hours on the train to/from work sounds like too much to do every day.

I had a workmate in Taralgon, that journey was something like 3 hours each way. She only came in once per week, and that was 10 years ago, before a pandemic made working from home common. That said, she did a fair bit of work on the actual train and didn’t even stay in the office the entire work day.

I knew someone who worked in Tullamarine and came in from Warrnambool, although she drove since Tullamarine has abysmal public transport. For some bizarre reason she still came in 3 days a week. Not sure if she still does, but that was 2019.
