A friend at work with challenged me to play chess a few days ago, after not mentioning it this whole first four months we have been working together very closely - when it has come up in conversation many times (it’s a hobby of mine and I’ve mentioned a few times meeting up with friends at cafes to play), and I’ve played games with a few other colleagues.
I’m not very good or anything but like I kinda know what I’m doing. He has beaten me about 15 games in a row so far, in dominant fashion. The most recent game he sacrificed his queen as his third move - literally just giving up his most powerful piece on purpose to handicap himself, and he won that game too. He’s incredibly good and just happened to keep that fact hidden for months for some reason. So strange and interesting!
My sister plays backgammon and she kept nagging me to play so I crammed for about 3 months straight. Next time she asked I said “sure but go easy on me. Haven’t played in years”. First game I won “oh look beginners luck”. Second game she won. Next 3 I won. She never asked me again.

That’s kind of how I learned guitar lol
🤣 backgammon is tough! I haven’t played in ages but it was a lot of fun
It’s a game of luck really.
Luck and skill, a lot like poker - but more simple
Yeah exactly

I do play on chess.com! Only vs friends though normally, not really wanting to study and grind it at the moment, just play with friends and have fun
