Experiment time: Miele vacuum vs Aldi stick vacuum
Question: Will the stick vac pick up anything that Miele didn’t?
Apparatus: One 28 year old barrel Miele vacuum with a fresh bag. One fairly new recharged, clean Aldi stick vacuum.
Method: Unlimited time use of the Miele on the carpet. 5 minute use of the stick vac.
Hypothesis: My haphazard use of the stick vac will pick up something compared to the careful manoeuvring of the MOTH with the Miele.
Results: results still pending (the fucking thing is still charging)
Place your bets.
UPDATE Results are in.
Results: That little stick vac did indeed pick up a reasonable amount of fluff.
Conclusion: That trusty Miele has seen some stuff I can tell you but the stick vac whipped it’s arse. I agree with @[email protected] when I’ve caned the shit out of the stick vac the Miele will still keep going which is why it will become a family heirloom passed down to the grand kids/ grand pets and I’ll be getting myself a Miele stick vac.
I have become a firm believer in wood, tile or vinyl floors and good rugs.
The rugs should be beaten over a railing outside to get the dust out. Most dirt that comes in on shoes or blows in has tiny quartz crystals that work their way down into the pile and cuts fibres with their sharp micro edges.
I’m going the Miele. The Miele machines were very good. Even if the rechargeable stick vacuum does a great job initially, I’ve heard it’s hard to get replacement filters/batteries for them and some are fiddly to clean. Can’t vouch for your aldi one, YMMV. But I reckon once you consider the running time before they run out of charge, and the overall durability and performance of the Miele over the years… I’ll bet you still have the Miele in 2 years time and the stick vac will be out in the street.
Well that was actually very interesting! I encourage any and all of you to conduct this type of comparison in future and report the findings here. Very Choice Magazine of us lol.

I’m getting on the Miele. Aldi is great and all, but you can’t beat old school.
