I’ve been really shit at cooking recently. I’ve massively screwed something up in almost everything I’ve tried to make recently

    It’s doing my head in

I find that happens periodically with many things. Generally it means you are becoming more confident in what you are doing, which means you tend to either relax and cut a few corners, or get a bit adventurous and try new things. So you learn from your mistakes, go back to having some great results, which prompts you to become a touch overconfident again. It’s an ongoing cycle that continues for as long as you are open to learning new things (although the mistakes tend to get less horrendous as you gain experience).

        this is true

nearly everything a person does is a new learning experience, new skills

but we do learn how to learn and so it does get easier and less tense over time

They’re the days you eat salad or you cook in the mornings when it’s cooler.

Sorry. My negativity was unwarranted, and misdirected. I think it’s just been one of those days things go wrong one by one. It’s been super hot inside, and I spent a bit of time over the gas stove getting even hotter just for it to ultimately prove a fruitless endeavour

I hear ya and you don’t need to apologise because you did nothing wrong. My comment still stands. Salads and cook in the mornings. I can’t understand people who cook in the heat. I prefer not to sweat into my food.

              Ps. Or sandwiches

We have all been there. These days, I usually screw up timing. I always under/overestimate how long something will take and end up with part of the meal ready and getting cold while the other part is 15 minutes away.

This is the time to make these mistakes. While nobody else is waiting for you or having to eat what you make. You’re getting a huge head start on your peers, half of whom won’t actually cook for themselves until they move out of their parents’ in their mid 20’s.

I always used to do one pots or very simple meals with few side dishes so I absolutely don’t have timing down
