I was at school with the Red Baron’s granddaughter. She wore SS uniform to the formal. Try getting away with that now…

Who knows? But look at the career of Hermann Goering … also a WWI flying ace, and the Red Baron’s bossman.

Both good points. It’s hard to know what somebody’s beliefs would be when they pass so young.

It’s an interesting thought experiment, would the red Baron subscribed to Nazism because of the environment (his boss), or would he have been against that ideology?

Edit: his granddaughter is apparently a piece of work tho lol

Yup. Had a permanent note to get out of PE, spent it all reading MKampf. Her essays in Modern History were apparently quite something.

Um, a Freiherr from Silesia is only marginally Prussian I think, albeit one of ‘ancient’ lineage. Could well be wrong about that. Also, RB could well have kicked back against Goering who was a real piece of work even before Nazism. Might even have succeeded due to hero status with the general public of Germany. Much more liked and admired than Goering. As you said, we’ll never know for certain sure. Which is probably a good thing.
