Australia’s busiest bridge? That’s the biggest bit of news in this article to me.
I’m guessing it only has that title because the Sydney Harbour Tunnel’s traffic isn’t counted as bridge traffic? Even with the tunnel, though: I’m surprised the Westgate trumps the Harbour Bridge. I’m not even 100% certain I’d have guessed the Westgate as the busiest bridge in Melboune - it would have been a toss-up with the Bolte.
Edit: Ha! Doing a (very) little Googling, I found that this article is almost a copy/paste of the same article from last year.
Both articles claim that the Westgate is the busiest bridge in Australia, but I don’t see another source for this factoid. Interestingly, last year’s article says that Perth’s Narrows bridge takes second place. I never would have guessed that, either!
The NSW gov seems to place traffic on the SHB at 160k/day.
Yeah, but as I suspected, if you add the tunnel traffic to that crossing:
Weekday traffic on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Harbour Tunnel is forecast to rise to 300,000 vehicles a day by 2030, up from 250,000 at present. (Source).
So, tunnel traffic doesn’t count.
I see the Narrows every work day. I can look down on it from the floor at work. I run past it or over it just about daily. And I had no idea it was up there with the busiest bridges in the country.

I did a quick search, and according to gov estimates, the WGB is used by 200k+ cars a day.
The NSW gov seems to place traffic on the SHB at 160k/day.
The ABC puts the Narrows Bridge at “almost” 200k cars a day.
