I’m completely physically wrecked (own fault), woke up last night at like 9/10pm, and Melbcat may have another uti. I don’t think I can get help to take her in before her appointment on Friday so I scrubbed the litter trays out (wearing gloves) ready for sample collection.

I’ve planted everything out but am kind of concerned about the flowers getting enough water because of the tree roots.
Come to think of it that could be an issue with my backyard too, even if I could get rid of the invasive grass that came from a neighbour. I’d probably have to use raised beds but don’t want anything here that would be difficult to move.
The disproportionately withered tomato plant does seem to have perked up though.
Are they annual flowers? They can be surprisingly tough. They are built to grow quickly and take advantage of every resource available, put it all into flowering to create the next generation, then die off once things get tough. If you can let them self seed you’ll often find they can get a foothold in quite tough conditions.
Some of them are. I sowed alyssum and nasturtium and planted some marigold seedlings. I have more of the first two and some sunflowers sown in cups/trays in case the direct sow doesn’t takes
Nasturtiums should do OK. Tough little bunnies if they get enough shade & moisture. The immature seed pods are edible, as are the flowers. Quite a spicy peppery taste and a succulent crunch factor that goes really nice in salads. Neither cook well.
Alyssum and marigolds are both pretty tough. Nasturiums are if they get the right spot - I have one patch that runs rampant under the rasberry canes and tried to take over the whole yard (with an attempt to get inside the house, too!). Others out the front in full sun struggled a bit, but one managed a foot hold around the garden tap and is doing quite well.

Yesterday was a very drying day, even though not all that hot. Today is less windy, so won’t dehydrate the plant so much.
