For some reason last night I had a random bout of motivation and decided it was time for a yearly thorough clean in my bedroom. It’s not quite 11 months since I moved in, but I have the motivation now, so decided to get it over with. My desk was kinda gross underneath. I didn’t realise how much crap managed to fall under it (it’s a wheely one with the top desky part but then another desk layer thing at the bottom, so nothing underneath it is visible). It’s easy to move, but my computer and screens and such are on it, so moving it requires unplugging everything, hence why I haven’t done it before.
The area around my desk also ended up caked in several layers of dust and grime and I don’t understand how it’s possible for it to be that dusty. It’s just the area near my desk. Even the areas in my room I’ve never wiped or moved aren’t that dusty. They have a thin layer of dust, sure, but the stuff next to my desk has like a decades worth of dust accumulated. The housemate was getting rid of an air purifier with a HEPA filter before he moved out and offered it to me, so that should help. Unfortunately, it seems to have been a one time aldi special buy thing from 2020 and nobody sells filters for them, so he said he just vacuums the filter out every few months. Hopefully it’ll do the trick though
Oh, that would make sense. For the first few months I was here, I did spend most of the day in my room, probably in the vicinity of my desk. But I thought dust was mostly dirt from outside + clothing fibers
From what I understand you shed dead skin cells and the dust mites eat it, pooping out dust. I could be wrong. But that’s why you get told to wash bedding on hot to kill them

Dust comes from shed skin cells so frequently used rooms are more dusty

You have to be vigilant keeping on top of dust. Even more so if you have carpet which are notorious dust collectors.
I’ve been alright so far. I don’t get allergies or anything like that, and dust doesn’t seem to have much affect on me besides the occasional sneeze
