back in my day there used to be stamp vending machines. You put your 2 or 5c coin in and a single stamp would come out and you would have to detach it from the perforations
Back in my day the local post office was a tiny little cubicle with a slidey window (looked a bit like a confessional booth) that sat inside a wool shop. It was also run by my prep teacher so I sometimes got to see her on the school holidays.
Are you responsible enough with that stamp young friend?
I don’t think so old friend. I had to google how the hell they worked and even now I’m essentially just guessing. It said it’s $1.20 postage to Melbourne, so I think it’ll arrive. In any case, I learnt through an eBay seller that Auspost don’t just refuse to deliver if you don’t put enough stamps on, they just make the recipient pay the difference, so I can’t really mess up (I think)
Nothing makes me feel richer than buying something that’s hidden behind the counter and only has empty boxes on the shelves
spoiler
Except of course the fact that even a single $1 stamp is hidden behind the counter now

One day you’ll be able to tell the younger generation “back in my day we had stamps and they kept them behind the counter”.

I have no idea but my guess will be that it will still get there because the price of stamps have just gone up.
She’ll be right
