Times like these I’m glad our family never did xmas. A relative in the 'Rat has invited me this year though so I got something for the little kiddo months ago… nobody else gets anything though.
I’ve got to bring a fancy salad though, and I almost never make them. And it has to be disassembled so it can survive a 2hr drive tomorrow afternoon to be reassembled on the other end.
I will have to steel myself and tackle the fancy grocery today.
Fancy salad is very similar to a normal everyday salad but with pomegranite seeds and possibly some sort of fancy cheese. Or I might be out of date and there is a new definition of fancy this year.
If you go back in time you will find a fancy salad involves jelly. Hopefully this is one trend that will never repeat.
That’s funny because I was thinking if you want a pretty salad you just add pomegranate seeds but they’re not in season. Couldn’t think of anything else that would make it fancy. Haha.
Orange can be fancy, but you need to make sure each segment is peeled with no white bits. Which is either incredibly fiddly or requires a soak in a pectin disolving enzyme.
I bottled a lot last year, after using the enzyme to peel them. They worked really well & I can now add them to salads whenever the mood strikes me. I don’t think I’d want to go to the effort of peeling.
My cousin sent me recipes of pear and walnut type things and honestly even that is too much for me. I don’t even eat basic tomato and lettuce salad. I eat lots of veg, just can’t be bothered making salads… I can’t “think salad”.
This is too hard. I’m going to change tack and suggest some top notch broccolini or green beans with a tasteful sprinkling of garlic infused olive oil and sumac and stuff like that. Maybe my aunt’s excellent julienned-cabbage stir fry that makes a great side even if it’s cold.

Does it need to be fancy?
I’m not good and don’t eat salads really but I made a Wombok salad with the crunchy noodles.
Super easy to do on a budget and it’s simple.
A fancy salad. I did not know such things existed.

I imagined a Caesar with a little Top Hat on it and thanks to AI we can make this come to life!

I think the trend before pomegranate seeds was flowers on top, probably with a large amount of rocket.
If you can’t get pomegranate you could probably do something like pear and blue cheese.
That is fancy. What about segmented orange?

I have done this before and it can get quite messy.

A fancy salad is a normal salad in a nice bowl, and maybe with some luxe crunchy bits
Oh. Like pine nuts.
