Does anyone here know about grading collectible cards? I’ve got a bunch of old magic cards that I should sell and it seems getting them graded will improve my sale chances, but it looks like $40/card. I’ve got about 20 cards that’d be worth over $100 but that’s $800 worth of grading.

I would take really good photos and skip the grading. Find similar looking cards and price accordingly.
Can’t see spending $800 netting you that much extra when selling.
Unless you’ve got some top quality super rares which might be worth it.
I’ve got some very old commons which sell for about $150 ea and a couple of multi lands worth about $600 ea.
I had a full set (4 of each) of each dual land from revised 😭
Did a tally not long ago (from memory) of how much I could have sold my cards for…it was about 200k-300k
But no, I left them all in Canada and my parents threw them out.
FML
Mum tossed my mox set + lotus. E: Well they disappeared from where I stashed them… she was all “I dunno, maybe”
Daaaaaaaamn. Okay that’s bad. That’s on par with losing a Bitcoin HD.
I had an Alpha or Beta Wheel of Time and a Berserk.
Had about a dozen revised Fork cards (was collecting them for a while).
Had some Antiquities and Arabian Nights cards too.
Okay that’s enough. I can’t go down this road again.
I know a guy that used to sell MTG cards for a living. He can’t officially grade them but I bet he could quote you a sale price at a glance
Thanks, I figure ebay auctions gives me an idea of what they actually sell for.
Could you informally engage a mate to take a look and tell you if there’s anything good? Otherwise you could list them high and see if anyone bites
Edit: I found a guide for grading them yourself but it focuses on condition and doesn’t tell you about rarity or worth https://www.threeforonetrading.com/en/guide-to-grading-magic-cards
Apparently though there’s other signs and there’s a TCGPlayer app you can scan them into.

Otherwise the other place might be able to tell you
ohh, good ideas there.
Yeah, it looks like a hassle to me but better than paying $800 out of your sales
I’d need to take a bunch of photos to sell them anyway so it’s not really much more effort.
