Try reading the question backwards as well as forwards if the questions aren’t too long. That way you’re focusing on the words on the page instead of getting caught up in the flow of reading
It’s a trick I learnt from copyediting. It helps with typos spellcheck doesn’t pick up. For exam questions it would be good to make sure you don’t miss important modifiers like ‘not’ in a question

So the question, “What is that?”, I’d read as, “That is what”?
You’ve got to read the question forwards again one last time before answering
Sounds like a plan! My mum would always say to read the question three times and this puts a spin on it :)
