I’ll take a pic of a traditional New Guinean belt pouch I have ( I collect all types of Oceania stuff ) . Guys would attach these to their belts and the belts were pretty much just strings to attach useful objects to.

Aren’t pockets just sewn in belt pouches?

Things fall out of pockets. Things get caught in pockets. A good pouch has not these problems
