The stuff for the community pantry got delivered and there looks to be a decent amount of food there (even though Woolies is still an absolute rip).
Groceries ramble
I picked a rare $2 delivery slot and deliberately shopped generic basics, things that would really fill you up and stretch a dollar, all the things my broken stomach can’t eat… (jealous)
Looks good though. I didn’t get boxed cereal because I thought the bags of quick oats would give more bang for a buck. Should still be ok for a kids breakfast if they have cinnamon and an apple… or even just add the jam and some of the long life milk
I overspent my limit a bit and won’t get this much next time, this was just for Christmas. I won’t be able to afford this regularly. But maybe next time I might get some cheap Hoyt’s spice sachets. Like cinnamon and Italian herbs. And maybe some tinned apple or jars of apple sauce. More jam.
Edit: My zucchini plants are still being stoopid. I have four plants but they keep sending up male flowers completely out of sync with the female flowers.
Garden ramble
I have ten male flowers saved in the fridge for hand pollination and they just sent up 2 more. Yet the females are still just barely appearing now and also some are browning and dropping off before they even flower.
I know they send up male flowers first and copiously but this is getting ridiculous. Females have been appearing and one or two have set fruit so I hoped the ratio would get a tiny bit less wild.
Maybe they’re stressed. I water them but it has been hot, they don’t have any mulch, and they’re in 30 cm plastic pots that might be a bit too small because that’s what I scavenged for free off the kerb :/ The potting mix is cheap too. Some of it is for tomatoes and veg but it’s mixed with general potting mix and both are the cheapest sold.
I have some 20 gallon grow bags coming because Big Dubya had 5 for $30 with free postage… but that’s still not enough for the large amount I want to plant to donate produce.
I’m really hard up for bigger pots. Seeds and potting mix are expensive but large pots are often out of my budget.
And it’s physically exhausting to the point I can spend days in bed after doing something mildly physical.
After this I need to stop fkn spending so much. And doing so much.
Just trying to stop things here feeling so hopeless and bleak
I know I’m not really relevant to this at all, but thanks Melba. You’re a good egg, and I’m sure you’ve made a lot of people happy, or at the very least made their Christmas and new year time a bit easier

Thanks.
Not really a good egg. Just kinda trying to shake myself out of hating humanity and feeling like shit. Something to do.
I timed it wrong so the place might not be open but it’s possible people will need this stuff more afterwards, when the Xmas donations have dried up
Shh. You’re a better egg than you realise
I would cheerfully sell most of the a-holes around me for a corn chip. (And they would deserve it.)
This is very much to manage my own mental health and occupy my mind/time so I don’t do anything destructive.
I’m not sure Melba knows how much she’s loved and appreciated 😘 😇
Yeah zuccs do that the little bastards. They eventually sync, we have a few coming out now
I think I got them in too late too… someone on another block has huge plants already fruiting. But then they were able to grow in ground.
At least my weird randomly staggered planting might extend the season
I’m scared that they might not do well or I’ll get really sick again and let them die
Nah they go ages yet. Melbourne has a wonderfully long growing season
