Sorry for flooding with comments but I had to show you all this. They have been building this “Urban Forest” for many months and actually had the balls to host a grand opening event for this bullshit this morning.

It’s a few shit concrete garden beds. Peak Docklands.

Was this CoM or the developer?

Agree it was stupid to try and jazz it up and call it an “urban forest” at this stage, it cheapens the term.

You’d also hope there would be more of a push to use softer landscaping elements and facades rather than harsh concrete. But hopefully the plants will kick off soon.

Cos honestly I do think you should give it a chance - those plants are just bebehs, let them grow and it might turn your head in a few years

Just to give you an example of how different they can look, here’s Hawke St reserve in West Melb when it was newly redone in late 2018 and here it is after less than a years growth. And here it is this year after about 5 years of growth.

Presumably that’ll come in as they mature. Putting in larger/more mature plants can sometimes be a gamble in terms of higher cost and higher chance of transplant shock, for a more immediate effect. Maybe some cheap ornaments might’ve helped with colour at least

I think they are really nicely made, they just need huge plantings of lush greenery and masses of flowers, then have nice seating all around

They’re just plain grey concrete though. They could have tried to give them some sort of character! But then if it had character they wouldn’t really fit Docklands’ soulless corporate-designed theme.

They are a start, not a finish. Can’t have plants without a garden. ( tho I can see nice plantings being stolen or wrecked )

It’ll probably look better once it kicks on and gets growing, but it is pretty underwhelming. Would it have killed them to add a decent sized shrub or three?
