If you have thoughts on what you would prefer to see in content or NOT to see, add a comment here (make an anonymous account if you want) and let me (the mod team) know.

Ideally, I would prefer users to talk about local issues to them rather than me adding mostly boring news content.

If you have local blogs, independent news, landcare or catchment groups, etc., post it so we can see. You can also add content to the list so we dont lose track of it.

I don’t really have much to add to the articles, but I enjoy your selection that you post. I read, I upvote, and I move on.

I think most of the reason I don’t add replies is because for the most part - what can you do? When the articles are about something as macro as climate change, or a species going extinct, or even just yet another mine being approved… What can you say? What can you do? It all feels a bit useless, and my only real comfort is that I won’t be alive long enough to see things when they get really bad.

Oh and in answer to your other question… I think the only change is perhaps throwing a starter question in the OP? Or maybe some more articles that offer practical things people can do at home / in the local community.

Regardless, I appreciate the content you post!

Yeah that’s how I feel too. The content is good, it’s just…I rarely feel I have much to add.

      Thank you.

I know you’ve commented so it’s all good. I’m not worried about the comments too much but I just want to know if I just keep expanding, or cutting content etc.

It’s really hard to find things that aren’t regularly posted by news organisations, and search engines aren’t the best. Plus, my personal exposure might be different to other people’s, little catchment groups and charities etc that I couldn’t possibly know of. I’ll keep an eye out.

      Thanks for the comment 😉

Hey I think you do a great job! There’s such an enormous amount of environmental news and information out there from so many sources and it’s handy to have it all in one place. Maybe it’s just that the selection of articles and topics are things of interest to me. The summaries are handy too. I feel that I’m at least getting the gist of some important issues. There’s so much to read and so little time!

      Thanks.

I wanted it to be educational but have slipped into news for regularity. A month ago I was posting whatever I could remember and perhaps new readers could post articles from whenever, if they are relevant. It’s also why I smashed it out so you could just scroll the pages, rather than a feed (while I was home injured from work).

At some point, I think energy may be dropped if someone wants to add to another community, it’s fairly big topic with regular news. If you’ve looked at the thread where I add links, it’s getting longer so something will have to give.

I suppose, like the other comment, I could just add news to one post to avoid saturation of feeds? Maybe not now but if the users of Lemmy grow?

The summaries worked out well as search-lemmy.com picks up the body and adds greater weight to it. Dont trust them though, sometimes they are a mess.

I just subscribed a day or so ago. I think the content in general is interesting, but it feels like too much and it takes over the rest of my feed.

Perhaps that’s the reason you are making this post to begin with, sorry I can’t be more specific. My two cents is, less is more.

Are you willing to read stale news articles? Or are you saying that you don’t want actual breaking news?

Until other people pick up some slack, I tend to do the posting in short bursts when I get half an hour to an hour to myself. I am not sure how to limit in that regard because I try and be efficient and just smash all of it and get back to my life.

Is that the problem, you get a mad rush of articles at once? I’m only subscribed to environmental/science communities and even with my content, searching in new only has 30-50ish posts per day. I obviously don’t read them all, just scroll on by…

Just to clarify, I’m not even sure I’d say it’s truly a problem and I don’t recall ever downvoting any of your posts- I appreciate that you are putting in new content.

All I’m saying is that it’s more than I can read or process, and I find myself scrolling past to get onto things that aren’t news. I don’t have a problem with breaking news for being breaking news and I don’t have a preference for stale news, that’s not my point.

You can keep doing things the same, it’s fine with me. I have no idea how time consuming this is for you, I’m just giving you my personal perspective, which may or may not match that of others.

The problem with downvoting is that it’s a blunt tool with no nuance. It’s lazy, unhelpful, and doesn’t foster discussion.

I don’t assume that anyone that comments would actually downvote, I’m just looking for some feedback. Usually the only way one can get feedback is if they say or do the wrong thing.

You’ve made me think about some things, in another comment I wondered if a bi-weekly news thread roundup could be an option to reduce that load of posts. Without someone suggesting things like yourself, I may not have even considered it.

It’s a full time job, in amongst my other full time job and hobbies, so yeah, the community devoted to sustainability isn’t sustainable. There has been a smattering of posts from others and that’s a start.

I think with all the news about the state of the climate the world over, if a community like this (and others) doesn’t work to raise awareness and help foster some change in behaviours or voting patterns, the world is fucked.
