They’re an invasive species, of course, and their grubs eat natural fibres. So anything wool or cotton is food for them. Even books. I only know about them because I worked for a pest control company. They can come in on shoes or clothes, or fly in. No idea how they got in, but I never want to live in a place with carpet ever again.
I kind of hate having carpet. It could be cold and rugs could be expensive/a trip hazard but it would be nice to have a setup where you could just sweep, easily wipe up cat vom/pee, and throw rag rugs in the wash whenever they were dirty

I had moths eat calligraphy brushes. After the moths I bought a long pencil case .
And yes, carpet is horrible. Rugs are much nicer.
I was reading that climate change will bring higher humidity and that will encourage more moths and bugs.
