Gah, I feel this. I mean, there’s only so much one person can do in any given workday, but yeah, the mental toll it can take on top of the actual job itself isn’t ideal. Not by a longshot.
Nup. They hired for role x. I applied, they said you might not be ready for x, how’s x-1 sound? I said sure. They proceed to not hire an x and all of x’s responsibilities fall to me with none of the pay. Fuckers.
Gotta love it when they move the goal posts like that. Had an interesting conversation with a mate on the weekend about this very thing - the constant internal struggle between not giving a fuck versus admitting that you do to some degree, but then having it affect you because of how much work you actually have to do. Or the quality of the work. Or the output. And it’s all implied, yeah? Like, you might not have a boss who outwardly says “you need to do X by Y” but you know deep down that if X isn’t done by Y then you’re liable to get called into the office for a stern talking to.
And what is it all for in the end? You’re just going to get lumped with even more work to do if you do a great job.

Definitely! I HATE the idea of getting a bad score in the performance review, but I can’t understand why I’m killing myself for this job either.
