It looks like technology companies have just given up on smart home stuff. There are no more smart clocks, smart displays, not even speakers side from Sonos. Everyone got sick of using these things and the world has moved on.
This means I can chuck out my smart clock with the broken cable. I can actually get rid of it completely! It’s the cable that’s broken, not the unit, and it’s such a weird voltage and connector it’s not worth trying to replace.
It’s a bit of a shame to contribute to more ewaste. I might drop it off at one of the ewaste points at a library or office works. But it’s nice to know I can let go of something. No holding onto a cable ‘just in case’. No need to try get an otherwise perfectly fine unit to work, because I didn’t use it anyway. I can actually throw this thing out, and there’s no equivalent on the market to replace it with.
The small amount of waste you’ll be contributing is very very small. The best thing you can do is avoid it in the future, which looks like you’re doing.
All products have a life. Yours has it’s turn now.
