One of the places I write for, they also do a radio/podcast show. And I was invited onto it last weekend but couldn’t because of plans, but I asked if next available slot I could be on and I suggested to talk about fat representation in video games. And it’s been very interesting to read about because on one hand there isn’t a lot of stuff about fat bodies in video games, it’s really often the same 10 characters in a top ten list. But the videos and essays on the topic are fantastic.
It’s something I’m super passionate about, talking about representation in media is very very important to me. My first show with them I spoke about accessibility in video games because it’s something I will often talk about in my reviews. It’s the first thing I always check when playing a game, while I don’t have a lot of needs in that space, it’s still important. So having a space to talk about fat characters in video games is going to be fun.

I mean, I’d word it a lot nicer than that. But I just watched the show police rescue where they had to help a poor woman who’d had a bad fall and needed a special ambulance and it was so bloody sad. I embrace diversity, we’re all different and not everyone looks like a star from Baywatch, but like where’s the limit to fat representation here? Cause that poor woman didn’t need people in games who look like her, she needed serious help.
Haha, I do mention Roadhog and Ellie in my list of fat characters. Like diverse bodies are so interesting and they can create some amazing characters, even if it’s different levels of abled-bodied, size, textures of skin, etc.
It’s going to be fun, and to talk about what representation means to people. Some might not see the point in it, others might love it. I had a lot of fun playing Saints Row (2022) because I got to see someone in charge who looks like me. I mean the Saints Row games have been pretty great at representation for not only gender but body size too.

Uh…so yea… speaking from experience, being a fat fuck is not a disability that needs representation or accessibility. It’s just being fat
