There are no penalties for parents or kids that flout this, kids can easily get around it with parents ids or vpns, and Albanese even admits that they will and that them being able to is beside the point. So… what is the point? It’s just performative security theatre and a convenient excuse to increase surveillance.

The Liberals are worse by far but both parties are terrible.

If this does apply to AZ, I wonder how Nath/lodion plan on handling it. I probably trust them a little more than Google/Facebook, but the idea of sending anyone my ID is terrifying to me. I think they might be angling towards using MyGovID (which they’ve now renamed “MyID”), where you send them a copy of every form of ID you have, then they’ll handle the verification through some kind of API. But unless I know for certain the only thing returned to whoever’s asking is “yes, this person is over the age of 16”, I’m not going to be using it. I’ll just use a VPN on everything

Nath/Lodion don’t need to know my name, and the government don’t need to know my username

        Yeah, I’m cautiously watching too.

That reminds me. There was something about PayPal telling merchants your name and such, I have to go double check and deal with that too if so.

Data brokering has gone wild, everything is now blatantly galloping to squeeze as much as it can

Yeah. I’ve donated before, and I didn’t realise PayPal would publish my name, do I think Lodion probably does have my name in an email somewhere. But I don’t think it’s directly tied to the username I gave Kofi, so he’d need to go dig through it, then cross reference the dates/times/amounts to figure it out. Plus, it also exposed his name, so that makes me a little less worried about it

Don’t see why anyone would want to though, I’m really not that interesting and keep my name as well hidden as I can, no embarrassing old Facebook accounts to trawl through or anything

It’s a massive barrier to me donating to stuff. I could spare a few dollars but am wary of risking my financial security or leaking my details.

FWIW, I have paid/donated to things with pseudonyms before, and I’ve never had my bank block them before. You’re not meant to, and if your bank isn’t shit like mine, they should block it (especially if a credit card). Another option is using one of those visa gift card doo-dads, but idk if they work with PayPal

I did once or twice with a prepaid but don’t take risks now
