And worth it! They’re responsible for hundreds of lives on board. I don’t think I have the temperament to do it. You need to be 100% concentrating all the time and even if you are working perfectly you can still have idiots do something on the tracks that you are powerless to help. Suddenly, someone is dead.
I’ve even been the idiot pedestrian who almost stepped in front of a tram and got themself killed from stupidity. Luckily another pedestrian beside me was more on-the-ball that day than I was and warned me.
Plus the hours are crap, it kills your social life.
Yeah especially trams. You are constantly interacting with cars and bikes and pedestrians. You can’t swerve and there’s only so much braking a tram can do. If I must drive something I’d choose the train.
What does it pay? I reckon I could drive trams if it paid well enough.
Can’t seem to find it again. Now I see this: https://www.seek.com.au/job/74217803
“Once training has been completed the rate of pay progresses to $57.1306 per hour”
Public transport jobs also have very generous allowances for working overtime, or in weird locations no one wants to work.
Oh here it is! 80-100k
