The book is terrible. I got super gross incel vibes from it when I read it 5 or so years back.
My partner wanted to watch this with me because they loved the book. And I felt so bad because I was shitting on it. Like they realised how shit it was so it wasn’t like I was rude the whole time.
I just hate the female character she’s like “I’M SO UGLY!” yet she’s conventionally attractive with a birth mark. Get over yourself. Also Wade sucks too. I’ve watched YouTube videos about the sequel and Jesus Christ Wade sucks even more.
the worst thing about it is they do absolutely nothing with the “rebellion” plot line. Seriously, all I can think that makes sense is they named their squat rebellion. There was no danger, no build up of tension, no tangible Us vs Them, no reason given why people played virtual reality games instead of making a real life community that houses and feeds people, nothing to rebel against…
Yeah, it’s just nostalgia porn tbh.
yes and I found it really lazy , riffs from a fave movie soundtrack, characters from childhood cartoons, these don’t make a storyline
