As a jobseeker (I am studying but do not qualify for austudy), this is foul. How come IT issues with mutual obligations don’t immediately ping against the payment and prevent cancellations?
They treat us like scum, with no regard to our individual financial situations. We’re labelled as “dole bludgers” and written off by the vast majority as saps on society. Then this happens and we can’t pay rent, pay our bills, pay our school fees (whether our own or our kids), buy food or pet food, pay for public transport or petrol or rego. Yet we aren’t given consideration or understanding from the public, just that we should “suck it up” and “just get a job”.
I feel great empathy for those affected by this, and am saddened by the lack of regard for our wellbeing. I look forward to what the reviews find and suggested outcomes reccomended by them. Though I am not so naive to believe this will change anyone’s perception of our place in society.
Dole bludgers rhetoric is just useless eaters dressed up and made palatable again.
It is government policy that 5% of people actively looking for work are kept unemployed to supress wage growth and weaken labour as a social force (not Labor). That’s one in twenty people actively looking for work. It is also government policy to demonise those same people.
